Any Colorado drivers?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I am thinking about getting a new midsize truck. I had a Tacoma for 10 years and really liked it. But when I look at the new models, seems like nothing meaningful has changed sans the engine. I suppose they can still get the high $ because they still own the market.

So I am looking outside of Tacoma. I think the Nissans are heinous, and thus not an option. Don't quite like the look of the Rangers.

So I am taking a hard look at the Colorado. I think it looks the best of them all outside and looks more refined inside and has more bells and whistles than the Tacomo for the same or similar $.

Question: Are there Colorado drivers here with any feedback, good or bad? Anything else I should be considering? Reliability, etc.?

TIA

I've had them for rentals and they're decent. I still prefer the Frontier over the GM midsize.

That being said, no reason to go with midsize instead of full size unless you have physical size constraints.

I've never had a midsize before, but the new Colorado looks good

Bought a 2019 Colorado ZR2 new, still have it, very solid truck.
Front and rear lockers standard which was not common in 2019.
Zero issues so far, have the V6, not a fan of the turbo 4 they are shoving down our necks for 2023.

Bought one for my son last year so I guess its a 2022. It is the Z71, 4wd, with trailering package, V6. Meaning it has the integrated trailer brake controller. He loves it. Gets decent mileage, easy to get around town, plenty of power. He's 6'3", 280(gym rat) and fits fine. Much easier in and around town than my 2500HD DirtyMax.

Not sure of your context, sans = without.

My dad has a Canyon and it has been problem free EXCEPT for the infotainment system which is jacked up. Seems to be the norm with a lot of vehicles these days.

Stick with a new Tacoma, 4 Runner or new Lexus GX. In that midsize category these are the way.

2018 Colorado Z71. My daily driver. Love it with zero issues after 64K miles.

Have fun.

The new turbo is better than the v6 in every way. The new Colorados are very nice. Waiting on the new ZR2.

Tacomas aren't very nice to drive. The seating position is dumb, but apparently that has been remedied for '24. they are underpowered and haven't been the most reliable. The SUV considerations are silly when speaking about a midsized truck.

Rental agency have me a Nisssan to get out to a geothermal project in Nevada last year.

Really liked the week I spent driving that little pickup.

I actually think that the new Frontier's are bad ass looking. I haven't had the best of luck with GM in the past, but that's just my experience.

If I were looking at mid-size trucks, I would go Frontier/Tacoma over Ranger/Colorado/Canyon. That's just my opinion. If you're set on the mid-size, go drive them and pick what feels best for you and your needs.

I just noticed the new Colorado yesterday on the beach in Port A. Looked great. Thought it was a Silverado on the first pass.

I like the Frontier, too. Just wish they all offered a longer bed with the crew cab.

I think Tacoma will still have a 6' bed option with the new crew cab Tacoma.

I've thought about this comment a few times, and was prompted to look at some old full size versus new mid size truck stats after seeing the new GMC Canyon photos on another thread.

I know this has been discussed before, but it still is interesting to me - pickup trucks have changed so much since my youth.

2023 GMC Canyon Denali (crew cab 4wd - I didn't see reg cab or ext cab versions) versus 1998 GMC Sierra 1500 (EXT Cab shorter wheelbase 4WD - I didn't see a crew cab option)

Price $51K vs $21.5K

Towing 7.7K lbs versus 6k lbs

Bed Length 62" vs 79" (could be a big reason for some to want full size - and it was up to 97" bed with a longer wheelbase 1998)

HP 310 vs 255 (most powerful 1998 option)

Torque 420 vs 360 (most powerful 1998 option)

Wheel dia 20" vs 16"

Cargo volume 42 cu ft vs 56

Ground clearance 11" vs 8"

Width 72.4" vs 77"

Length 213" vs 219" (not much shorter overall but more focus on cab vs bed)

Height 80" vs 73"

Curb Weight 4750 vs 4560 lbs

Payload 1500 vs 1640 lbs

My brother-in-law had one about a decade old, but it got totaled when street racers slammed into it (for some reason my wife couldn't articulate, he had it parked overnight on the curb).

Tacomas have their problems just like anything else, but my experience is that they are very durable and reliable machines.

That's cool and all but you aren't measuring space inside the cab, how about front seat legroom, headroom, shoulder room, etc? The mid size trucks are much more capable these days but they are still cramped on the inside.

Owned a 2015.

Windshield wipers were not manufactured at the right angle leaving the plant.

Engine shut off after cold start. Needed to use premium fuel to prevent that.

Rattle in the steering wheel dealer couldn't fix, actually they made it worse.

I did enjoy the mpg, though. Traded it in for a 4Runner a year after I bought it. When I got in the 4Runner, I truly felt I upgraded.

Colorado/Canyon is solid on features -- probably best in the industry -- but Consumer Reports has at least many of the models years as some of the worst reliability in trucks they've seen. In fairness, other reliability reporting services (I don't know if it is JD Power specifically or another one) have said the GM smaller trucks aren't quite that bad.

Go at your own risk, but I wouldn't touch them. However reliability is far and away my number 1 concern. There isn't even a close second. YMMV.
