Almost sounds like the computer put it in "limp" mode

And I'm curious how you can do brake jobs but not know how to check the oil.

The word is "seized" by the way
Where did I say I didn't know how to check the oil? All I was pointing out was the oil light came on and I hadn't stopped long enough to investigate why it might have come on. Do i change my own oil, no because I choose not to and yes, I know I likely overpay to have someone do it for me but it is something I am willing to pay for so I don't have to mess with it. I know how to do brakes because my dad taught me how to do them, and like I said above I can do other minor repairs, I just don't claim to be someone that knows the ins and outs of every part of a car. I know my limitations and do what I can, if it gets above what I can or am willing to do or try I take it to someone who knows or will.

Thanks for the grammar lesson btw, you obviously knew what I was saying, like everyone else did.

Oil light comes on in any car I own I am stopping pretty damn quick and pulling the dipstick. That is not an idiot light I take chances with.

Generally when an engine seizes, one of the rods will go through the wall of the engine block. In other words, the piston will stop moving, this is the seized part. The crankshaft is still turning and the rod connecting the crankshaft to the cylinder head breaks. Usually this sends the rod through the wall of the engine cylinder. There is very little that can be done to get someone on their way, although I have seen the broken rods disconnected and the engine run on one fewer cylinders.

Thank you for the thoughtful explanation on an engine seizing. (Not being sarcastic)

The oil light came on and you did nothing about it. So I made the rational guess that you didn't know how oil worked in the engine, or you would have made time to check the oil.

It's like saying your EKG shows you're having a heart attack, and you wait a few days to do anything about it.

And if you had used the wrong word once, I would have ignored it as a brain fart or typo. Multiple times, you left yourself open. But if you're asking for help on a car, it helps to be accurate

I've had decent luck with them. Used them twice out of desperation/convenience as they were fairly close and I couldn't drive the vehicle. But I will say they are very expensive, and will avoid them in the future.

I've taken my car there twice. First time was for transmission and brake fluid change. Recommended I flush the coolant because the level was low despite not being due per the manufacturer for another 50,000 miles. Took my car back against my better judgement for an oil change 5,000 miles later, and they recommended I change my brake fluid. at the same shop. with the same service advisor where I did it 5,000 miles ago.

Screw those guys
