Lug Nut Missing After Body Shop Work (And subsequent 1000 mile road trip)

We just got our Odyssey back from the body shop last week, repairing a scrape on the rear passenger door and rear quarter panel. Then went on a 1000 mile road trip the next day after getting it back.

Got back into town last night and took it in for an inspection today. It failed the inspection due to a lug nut missing from the rear passenger wheel. I'm confident the body shop removed the wheel because the wheel lock key was on the center console when we picked it up from the body shop.

Reading online, I'm finding that driving in this condition can damage wheel bearings, studs, etc.

Am I justified in asking for a new set of studs & lug nuts? Anything else?

Probably didn't hurt anything. Check the torque on the others and put a lug nut on it. If the stud is broken, you can ask the body shop about it. They are replaceable and not that bad of a job depending on your skill level.

We get heavy equipment in the shop with broken studs quite frequently. I haven't seen damage to the wheel bearings or any thing else yet.

if the others aren't torqued correctly (or loose) i would definity call em up and have a conversation. would be hard to prove though, although if they have some integrity they probably would be willing to offer up something to help make the situation right. i dont think asking for new studs and bearings is reasonable, though, unless something is clearly damaged. you did drive 1k miles, so it would also be reasonable to expect you to notice something missing from the car.

if everything is torqued up i think i'd just move on

Buy a new one at Napa and put it on. You haven't hurt anything. Lug nuts just fall off sometimes.

I'd go around and check the torque on all of them. In fact that's what your supposed to do anyway every time you take a wheel off. Torque them, drive few miles then check the torque again. Alloy wheels expand and contract a lot more than steel wheels. If they were hot when the first torque was done, and then they cooled, your torque spec will be off.

I had our Odyssey's tires rotated at Discount a little while back and just noticed our wheel lock on one front wheel was missing. I'm pretty sure I checked they were all there when I left, so guessing they didn't torque down the lock. The off the shelf ones at most auto parts stores say "not for use with OEM wheels" (at least on my 2014), so I ordered a set of 5 from ebay and got rid of all the wheel locks while I was at it.
