I've got a 2014 F150 and recently a piece of the sunroof track broke. I took it to a shop for diagnostics and they gave me a $2700 estimate for a new track and labor.

The breakdown is ~1700 for parts with the 1k for labor. Does this seem right? When I look online for the parts I find it for much less but not sure what I am looking for exactly.

Any help out there?

I've heard of people doing the work themselves. There are videos on YouTube showing how to do it.

One thing to remember, a sunroof requires regular maintenance, it will prevent this from happening. Grease the track and the seals with appropriate greases and the track won't break.

There is a place in Spring that fixed ours for $500. It's over there by Williwbrook mall. Dealer quoted us ~$2000 and did some research and found these guys that fixed it for $500. I can't remember their name.

$1700 for parts likely means they're intending on replacing the entire sunroof cassette.

The parts are super cheap to just repair the tracks if you're somewhat mechanically inclined. Have to pull the headliner and sunroof cassette

Finding a shop to install the parts may be a bit harder since most shops seem to want to replace assemblies vs doing repairs like this

Thank you all for the input. Yes, looking on youtube I believe I can do it, but my concern is if I get stuck there is really "no point of return" so I am searching for some assistance to be safe. Don't want a leaky sunroof. Truck is in great shape otherwise with only 96k miles.

I've come really close to just putting on a black wrap right over the sunroof on my F250 because I've been too lazy to drop the headliner

There are many YouTube videos showing what to do as well.

If you hear a pop as the glass unseals from the gasket, you need to get this service done. The plastic tracks are designed to break before the glass breaks.

There are two types of sunroofs. Those that leak and those that will.

sunroofs are the devil.

My current vehicle was ordered with no sunroof on purpose.

We bought the wife's SUV used and it unfortunately came with a sunroof. So I disabled the switch to prevent anyone from opening it…ever. It garages at night and parks in a treeless lot during the workday so I'm optimistic the drain lines won't clog.
