Unbelievable. And yet totally expected.

Rather than vote in favor of a motion banning the unlawful possession of catalytic converters a valuable automotive part Nithya Raman, a Los Angeles councilwoman, voted against the measure and blamed car manufacturers for making the part too easy to steal.

"In this case, I think one of the things that infuriates me, is that we have a company whatever, Toyota who makes the Prius, that essentially has a device on their cars which is super easy to remove. It's basically the value of a MacBook, right?" the Democratic lawmaker said.

Quote:

Raman was joined in her opposition by Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez who argued that the motion would "not make our city safer" and that it could have an impact on Latino and Black communities.

"This ordinance is a costly one for the city," Hernandez added. "It will lead to more cases for the city attorney. It will lead to more money spent on courts and more money spent on public defenders."

Those opposing the motion insisted that car owners should fabricate cages or use anti-theft devices to protect their cars.

To anyone who has been a victim of cat theft, just go tell Toyota it's their fault for not designing things to be harder to steal.

If you have had a vehicle stolen, maybe try that as well.

Bike? Your fault.

Identity? Again, that's on you.

Holy crap, these people are mentally ill.

So when enough minorities and white "allies" get elected to office they do two things immediately: 1) vote themselves an ever increasing share of your money (socialist giveaways up to and including reparations); 2) make members of their race immune to prosecution.

I think she has a great point, they should make a federal law that prevents auto manufacturers from putting these expensive things in the cars they sell!

I had catalytic converters stolen off our Sequoia a few months back, $6k+ for factory replacements but my insurance wouldn't pay for OEM nor did I want to wait 6+ months. I went from 4 cats to 2.

It is a dumb argument the councilwoman is making but it is amazing to me those thieves remove something worth $6k in less than 60 seconds. But it's ultimately is on the owner to protect their vehicle, I did hear about Prius, Tundra and Sequoia cat thefts before mine were stolen at a "secured" airport parking lot.

Of course we've seen truck tailgate theft issues, countless cars up on bricks instead of their wheels (I guess manufacturers tried keyed lug nuts, but I don't think thieves struggle with them), I believe some manufacturer key fobs lead to easier vehicle theft.

Seems like most people there want them in prison when they get caught, then probably vote for the people that keep letting them back out of jail quickly.

If she thinks its so easy to remove, I'd like to see her R&R a cat on a prius.
