Been about 2 hours. Police have everything and last know location via OnStar.

What's the over/under on a found truck?

2017 GMC Sierra. Nothing fancy stock rims and rebadged.

Where was it stolen? That just sucks.

Top photo was last know ping from OnStar prior to being stripped dead.

How did they steal it? Does it have keyless start? Our 2017 Silverado doesn't and I'm unsure how they could drive it without the chip key.

They'll probably find it tomorrow after it's used to steal an atm. Sorry man, that sucks.

The plates are probably stolen anyhow on the Escalade - sorry, that sucks

Guaranteed they stole that escalade right before they stole yours. When mine was stolen it was delivered to the police impound lot stripped bare the same night. Start digging up the best recent pics you can find of it, any receipts, and when the total loss adjuster calls tell him exactly how you expect to be made whole. Sorry dude that sucks

They aren't any clearer. Your brain resolves Sewell because you recognize the formatting and pattern and then it resolves the letters for you.

Unfortunately, you need a specific camera system to fully resolve plates, but as everyone said, it won't matter, those plates aren't legit or they are stolen as well. You don't break into a truck by sliding up in your excalade and steal it in under a minute because you are new to the game.

OP, you might be able to resolve more plate frame by frame. The G is decent in that shot but a previous frame may have more info if you have the luxury of access.

that address doesn't seem like a place to strip down stolen vehicles. maybe they just pulled in there to disable the tracking.

I'm going with last 4 being, 7146 since it's usually letter letter letter number number number.

Sorry to hear.. I had my 15 Sierra stolen but they ditched it 100 feet away for some odd reason. I installed a Ravelco and it's the best piece of mind.

These trucks are stupid easy to steal, bust the door jam, disable onstar, pophood, swap ecm and they are gone within 2 minutes..

It's already being chopped up my friend, best to start looking for a replacement.

Note regarding vehicles being moved to an unlikely spot, i was told that the pros will move a vehicle a short distance, park it then watch it for an hour or two before taking it to the chop shop. If you haven't shown up with the cops in that amount of time they can safely assume there's not a tracker on the vehicle and they can finish stealing it without inadvertently lead the cops to their shop

I would think a pro would disable a tracker.

I feel like this is only half the story. I believe the first part about taking it to an unlikely spot, but they're actively disabling the On Star. They know these cars have them, they know how to disable it, they aren't assuming it doesn't have a tracker.

I know multiple people who've had GM trucks/SUVs stolen and all of them are the same. They cut the horn, they get in the car, they're working inside the car and gone within a few minutes. By the time the owner realizes and checks On Star it's disabled.

Of course they have onstar and know how to disable it, I'm talking about other tracking devices like airtags, tiles, lojack, etc.

You likely won't want it back. I had a car stolen and recovered on the side of the road, and it was trashed (dents on the outside; alcohol, cigarettes, clothes, condoms (gross) on the inside). Got it fixed by insurance and sold it.

They were able to run the plate though. They were stolen also.

We need to start treating car thieves like cattle rustlers in the Old West. Shoot them or hang them when caught. Do it enough and the problem will end.

It seems like the car manufacturers could devise a system for locating the vehicle that cannot be disabled. I don't mean by hiding it, I mean protect it in a way it takes a very long time to disable it. Put the locater in a solid metal box that is a pain in the ass to get to. Run the wires so they are not easily cut. Have the locater powered by a battery back-up that will last for a few days. Or is this all too much to ask?

That'll be another $10k.
