Two radios...~$600 total to renew.

I've just been ignoring it and auto-renewing every year. But I just hate the idea of a $600 radio bill, now.

Has anyone recently (in the past year or so) called and worked through the retention folks to lower their bill? If so, what are the magic words and how easy was the negotiation? How much relief did you get in your final bill?

Cancel it, you'll start getting mailers for $8-12/month from them in no time.

did it in October, $141 for the year.

I would just ask if they have any specials. I seem to remember them asking a few questions if I was a member of AAA, etc. to try and get me a better rate.

Contact their retention department and ask for their best deal. Tell them you like the service but inflation is kicking your butt. I am now paying $10.68 a month for my truck.

Story below was Q4 2020, middle covid

They offered me $400 for two years and just needed updated CC info to auto renew. I was heading out of town on a long project and would be gone for several weeks. She was practically being for the CC to go ahead and bill me then send me to customer retention to negotiate a lower rate after she billed me. I told her to pound sand, rate first, then billing.

I guess while I was out of town (not using my personal truck) the radio shut off. I started getting progressively lower and lower offers via email. When i got home, I had multiple mailers also with lower offers. I think the best offer was nearly $1 a month!

It's 2023, and I still to this day never updated.

What does Sirius offer you that you can't get with Spotify or streaming thru your phone?

Cancel over their chat feature. They have to give you three offers before the reps can actually cancel. you should get down to under $10 per month per radio. but all you have to do is tell them you want to cancel you don't actually have to cancel to get the best deal.

ETA: i played this game every year since 2013. I finally quit them last week. during COVID they made it so you could cancel over chat feature rather than having to deal with them on the phone.

I just went through that. I told them I wanted to cancel in the chat. I got it for something like $6.99 per month and they said that was a new plan that didn't expire so I wouldn't have to ask next year again. I was surprised. It's too high otherwise.

$6.99 per radio in perpetuity?

That's what they offered me last week

I called to cancel my plan on my truck because I only drive it once or twice a week. They came down to $4.99 a month for a year so I kept it. When this deal is over, I will call to cancel and see what they offer after that.

Yep. I was shocked.

Yes, call them and negotiate. I have perpetually been on a promotional deal for probably 8-10 years, and always paid less than $8 per vehicle (my latest rate). In the early years it was $5 per vehicle + fees and taxes. Right now, and for the past 2 years or so, I pay $15.48 per month total for two vehicles.

The only downside is I have to call them every 6 months to ask for the deal again.

This. I don't understand the point of Sirius anymore. Seems like its obsolescence is inevitable. What am I missing?

For me it's service available anywhere. I can't get that using my phone service all the time.

If yall have SiriusXm - please for the love of God cancel.

I've been accepting offers on and off for the last 3+ years at ~5.99 / month for 5-6 months. And I always set a reminder at LEAST a week or two in advance. Just call and cancel and they'll re-up that promotion. No reason to pay more than 6-7 per month for the radio. I recently had my parents cancel and they were close to $20 a month

Seems to be their new thing. Wife and her sister love it and her sister just got offered that.

My dumb ass is paying $22.99 and $17.99 a month for our two vehicles.

Guess I get to hop on the phone (probably try the chat) tomorrow.

I pay about $6-7 per month per vehicle. Some taxes makes it about $100/year.

The system to give the better price was AUTOMATED via phone last time I called. Lol

Set calendar reminder for 3 days prior to auto renewal.

Lol no way. I have renewed 3 years in a row now for the most expensive plan… $109.99 plus fees paid in full per year.

When I bought my car dealer said wait, they'll get down to 5/mo. That's what I saw but never renewed, not worth it for my 12 minute commute.

I'm paying 4.99 for whatever includes all the sports stations. I was paying $6, but I wasn't able to get a game on my phone one day and called them. They said I needed a bigger package and offered it at 4.99/mo

Same, I had no idea people still paid for this knowingly. The only time we've ever had it is the free time you get after purchasing your vehicle, and the PITA it is to turn it off after that. I figured the majority of their customers were people who forgot about it and didn't notice the CC charges.

On another note, somebody purchased a vehicle in another state in 2015, and somehow my email address ended up on file with them. It took me 5 years to stop getting emails about it. The vehicle even shows up under my name for some of the data crawling services.

Can way top that. We took over my FIL's bills not too long ago.

He's been paying $250 per month for DirecTV for something like 20 years.

So, don't feel too bad about yourself.

(I obviously cancelled it outright).

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Same. I even did it through automated system. They must have a lot of people call because there's an option "if you are calling to cancel due to price....." once I made that selection, they came back with the cheap price. Agreed to that and I was renewed.
Texker
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yep. Just gotta play their stupid game. It's annoying AF but they've always come back either on the phone or by mail with a $5 or $6/mo offer for 12 months that includes a Platinum upgrade. I have the app on my phone so just get one subscription then pair up my phone to the second car.
YouBet
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Also pay $5 but I'm fully cancelling on next renew. It's no longer a relevant service. They won't be around much longer.

Most of their revenue stream is people paying purely out of habit.

So do I -- or something like that. I may not get ALL channels, but I get what I want. I only listen to 3 or 4 anyway.

I have what seems like 100's of offers for $5/month.

When they get it down to a $1/month I might consider it.

I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone pays for this. With a USB stick and Tune-In radio I have everything covered for $0/MO and I don't have to listen to the worthless on air talent.

Like I said....habit for most. That's admittedly why I still have it. It's a holdover service that is no longer relevant with CarPlay and Android equivalent. It just hadn't made my personal list of cost cutting just yet because it's not a big number.

The wife and I actually enjoy listening to certain Sirius Xm channels. I also enjoy being able to listen to games with ease when I'm in the car in the middle of nowhere and cell service sucks.

2 cars with the most expensive package for $240 a year is worth it to me. We also stream some of the channels through our house on the Echo devices.

I know for a fact we waste money on more idiotic things than this so whatever
