How did you like it? Any troubles? Go for it? Run away from it?
I want to replace our 03 GMC Envoy (6 cylinder base model) with something similar but gets better MPG and hopefully more comfortable to drive. I don't need a truck really, but I like having an SUV. I haul tools and tech equipment. I use the lockable, inside space a lot for work and for play. I have a small Harbor Freight trailer to haul a bike or our race kart with. That's all I need to tow.
The Escape Hybrid is cheap on the used market. But they have a reputation of being extremely reliable and efficient. They are being used as NYC taxi cabs. Many have close to half a million miles.
What's the catch? Is the cheap price just because people are afraid of a hybrid? I'm not. I had a 1st Gen Insight and rebuilt the battery pack myself. Are they cheap because they are terrible to drive? Any other reason?
I want to get rid of the Envoy because it is hard to maintain and it is terrible to drive, and it gets like 16mpg. It is otherwise in decent shape and is still a body on frame truck, just with extra-soft suspension. I've towed other cars with it several times, but in reality my wife drives a 2017 Silverado 1/2 ton. I have a truck if I need it.
With the Escape Hybrid I would be giving up some tow capacity for almost double the MPG, and hopefully an easier to maintain vehicle. The GMC is awful to work on.
