First car I purchased after becoming a working man was a Mitsubishi Galant. I think it was a '98. I put after market wheels on it so it was actually kind of cool looking car at the time. It was this baby blueish silver color.

The brothas loved it. I always got comments and looks from them when I had it.

Never have met someone with that make.

I saw one today and thought "oh crap I haven't seen one of those in years". Decent looking car. Weird thread timing for me.

My mom had a Mitsubishi Diamante back in the early 90's. It was nice af back then.

All I can add is the cool divorced guy across the street growing up (dad of my best friend at the time) had a convertible Eclipse and a Monterro Sport that could pull his jet ski. Drank Zima. Had a Sega Genesis and a laser disc player. Listened to INXS, Smashing Pumpkins, and No Doubt.

7 year old me thought Mitsubishi was Japanese for "living the dream".

The original Monteros were pretty damn cool. Land cruiser knockoffs. Not sure why they went away from that.

Convertible Eclipse was a certified hot chick car in the early 2000s

Subaru has a massive market here, and not just for the women who like women.

Have you ruled out the Outback? I had a 2020 as a company vehicle and wife and I both liked it infinitely better than her current RAV4 Hybrid (company car also). That eclipse reminds me of the RAV

My gf and I drove up to a Mistu at a light a few weeks back. I asked her if she had ever seen a Mitsu dealership before, and neither of us could think of one.

The last couple of Mitsus I've seen around here are an early 3000GT and a 2nd gen Eclipse that it looks like someone put a body kit on around 15 years ago. Both non-running, probably been sitting 5 years or more. I'd take either as a fun car to mess around with if bought at a junkyard price, because that's where they'll probably be before long.

Mitsubishi Eclipses were everywhere in early 90's, A&M buddy had one. Monteros did OK as well. Very odd to watch the brand sales collapse, nearly went the way of Isuzu in the US. I had a 1995 Trooper, 5 speed V6 SUV - I like it. Brother had an older mid 80's wacky Isuzu Impulse when he was in HS. Now - Isuzu gone.

Looked up Mitsubishi sales by year:

90's - running just under 200K annual sales per year, Market share around 1.5%.

2000-2010 - Peaked in 2002 at 345K annual sales, market share over 2%

Sales started plummeting in 2003 and by 2010 annual sales were 56K with market share under 0.5%.

Recovered a bit in recent years, sales back up over 100K (after 9 years below) and market share up around 0.7%. Battled to stay relevant, but I think they must have been close to exiting the market.

Was it an Impulse that Jackie Chan and the other guy were driving in Cannonball Run?

My wife had an endeavor (I think) in college. I mean it was nice inside, but I didn't like driving it. Held up well enough, though. She had it for several years then it went back to her parents and her brother for several more years.

Get a Hyundai. Better build. Better interior. Better quality and nearish to the price point you're exploring

Because they would rollover if you sneezed at one.

Had a few friends in HS die in a Montero accident.

So, long story short we got a 2023 Rogue SV AWD with the leather and the so called "premium pkg" whatever that all entails besides the huge sunroof and it was like $3k more than the Mitsubishi.
