Well, did you get it back in one piece?
Correct. I think they can disable the alert, but to disable the tag itself they would have to locate it and take out the battery, from what I understand from Apple's site.MouthBQ98 said:
I don't think you can turn the AirTag off. You can stop it from logging your own phone, however, as I understand it. It knows where it is, but stops noting it is connected to and moving in conjunction with a particular device that broke connection.

It does if they dont have an iPhone...or dont check it while in the process of driving off and trying to get away to the chop shop. For $25 I'll take my chances. Def when they know how to disable most GPS systems in the vehicles they're targeting. And yes, thieves are stupid.maroon barchetta said:atmtws said:Correct. So throwing an AirTag in your vehicle somewhere doesn't really help for tracking it when stolen unless the thief is lazy or stupid.

Sheriff just called "vehicle was recovered". Won't tell me condition.
I will keep Texags up to date as information comes in.
It is apparently "in the investigative lab". I assume they are looking for drugs. I expect the dash to be totally jacked up.
We installed over 2500 geotabs last year in fleet cars as well as some retail customers vehicles. There are other choices out there that dont cost as much and dont have a monthly subscription, but Geotab and network fleet by Verizon have live time track and trace.Lost Truck said:
Any of you guys use any of these hard wired trackers? I have a couple of irreplaceable vehicles that I want to secure.

SO: Yes we have recovered your truck. It is being processed
Me: any information about when I might be able to pick it up?
SO: no.
Me: Like, one week, one month, one year, one decade? Anything?
SO: Sorry, we can't tell you.
Me: Is it like totaled? Is there anything left?
SO: we can't tell you.
Me: Is there anything at all that you can tell me besides the fact that you have it?
SO: Nope.
Me: If I came down to the station, would you be able to tell me more?
SO: probably not.
Me: I need to figure out if I can count on getting it back or not so that I can arrange to have a vehicle if I need to.
SO: You will get it back at some point.
Me: When?
SO: We can't tell you.
Me: Have a great day (unsaid, but inferred) *******.

You post this on the OB? They could find Waldo and Carmen San Diego shacked up in a Motel 6 if they wanted.
