Easy - Porsche because it can be had w/ a 3rd pedal.

Lexus if you do your own wrenching or care about the maintenance costs.
Porsche and the incredible handling if you're fine paying someone else to drop the entire rear end out of the vehicle to repair the engine.

I have a 2015 Boxster. It belonged to my parents, so it is pristine and I know the history. The only issue it's had is cosmetic (the door panels separated, which is a commonly-had problem).

I'm assuming you've done the research and know the maintenance costs. I put about $4k into mine last year between the oil change/scheduled maintenance and new tires. Year before that, I just had my friend (who also had a Cayman) change the oil, as it was extensively serviced before my parents gave it to me.

I may be biased, but the Cayman is so much better looking than the Lexus. That front grill is hideous.

As an owner, I'd look down my nose at anyone who chose a Lexus over a Porsche (kidding, not kidding).

Seriously, though, you have to look at the pros/cons to each and what fits your lifestyle best. The Porsche is impractical and high maintenance in a lot of ways. Not sure about the Lexus, since I've never done more than pass them on the road.

Are Porsche oil changes hard to do? Brakes & suspension? I've heard that maintenance isn't that bad to do yourself on 997s but not clue about Caymans.

My friend did his own oil changes on his Cayman (and he's done my Boxster). He says it's easy, but I think you do need a lift (which he has).

Not sure about the rest. He didn't do any of that for me, and I can't remember offhand what they did when I took it in last fall. IIRC, it did not need brakes.

Took one of my sons (31) to the LA Auto Show a few years back. Walked into the Lexus area... he was looking at the cars. I told him, "You know those are glorified Toyotas, right?".

"No".

"Yup"

He asks the representative, and it is confirmed.

"Hmmmmmm".

Everybody has a Lexus. They're near indistinguishable from almost every other car on the road. Porsche, not so much.

If you can wrench on a Lexus, you can wrench on a Porsche.I do.

OP needs to go the Porsche route.

You wrench on a Porsche but it took 31 years to teach your son a Lexus was a Toyota?

That makes sense, they're so low it would be hard to get it on a ramp.

Lol. He's 31 now. He was ~21 at the time. Lexus never was discussed because... Toyota. Not bagging Toyota, but... Lexus is just a Toyota in prettier clothes, IMHO.

Oddly, in 2016 he picked up a 2017 Lexus SUV with all the bells and whistles. All of them. He loves it so much he's shared he'll keep it long term... likely driving it between enjoying his 2023 Vette.

Buy the Porsche.

Driving experience is better, reliability is comparable, and depreciation on the P-car will be significantly less than the Lexus.

Honestly, the two are not even in the same class. The RC300 is a 4-seat sports coupe...more comparable to a BMW 4-series or an Audi A5.

Do you want a sporty cruiser with room for kids/pets in the back, or a sports car?

(yes, I am biased as a Porsche owner)

the only thing I can do is fill up the fuel tank and check the oil and wiper fluid

and hand wash it.

Then the Porsche is perfect for you, assuming you're ok with the costs of dropping it off at the dealership for service once a year. Bonus, you'll get a loaner Porsche to drive for a few days.

Contrarian take here.

Current owner of a RC350 F sport. Has all the driving add ons such as Rear Steering, LSD, etc. Have owned previous to this SL55, 997 911 and M3. I actually like the RC the best. Older I get the more reliability means in so far as car enjoyment. Every time I took the SL55 out I worried what was gonna break or start leaking. I was always nervous of the big bill coming on the Porsche. It affected the experience. The RC is fast enough, can have fun at the track and still have a comfortable ride home with a fabulous sound system. No big repair bills and maintenance costs are downright cheap compared to Porsche. PDK transmission services and brakes are eye watering compared to Lexus. Finally, how many RCs do you see on the road? They are small production so there is some exclusivity to them. You just have to decide what you are after and how much you want to keep investing in this after purchase.

Between those two options I definitely would go Porsche. Have you looked at similar year (~2015) Lexus RC F? I don't have a great sense on pricing on the Porsche, but I bet a similar year RC F would be about the same, or at least in the ballpark? That would be a more interesting choice. The 5.0 V8 in the RC F is a great motor and would be fun to drive. The rest of the car is also beefed up to provide better driving dynamics.

Neighbor has a GS F that I've driven and it's really nice & fast. I'd get that over an M5 or E63 cause I'm cheap and don't want high maintenance bills.

But for this comparison I'd go Porsche all day.

Yes and No.

Porsche SE (a holding company owned by the Porsche-Piech family) actually bought a controlling stake in VW in the infamous 2008 short squeeze.

But Porsche AG (the car builder) is a subsidiary of VW.

So Porsche owns, and is owned by the VW Group.

Finally got my allocation last month. Was on the waitlist for almost 9 months in order to get one at MSRP. Could've had one much sooner if I paid ~$15-$20K ADM. Still another 5 months of waiting...

Nice!

I got an April allocation in December. Got the car first week of August.

Not a GTS though!

Paid MSRP + a clear bra and extra year of maintenance. Not happy about the required add-ons, but at least there was some value, and not just ADM.

When I picked it up they told me the wait for 911s is 2 years.
