How do you secure your firearm in a vehicle without room for a safe?

Another thread got me thinking about a dilemma I have with my new car - there isn't a space inside to install a safe like there is in my F-150. If I roll up to a place where I can't take my firearm inside, I need to secure it, and I don't want someone getting away with my firearm if they break into my car. I was thinking about maybe a small lock box cabled to the car seat.

What methods do you use or recommend?

If you don't drive a F-150 or F-250 your need to secure changes dramatically.

Was parked at a Courtyard Marriott between two coworkers, all of us backed in. My Ram sandwiched between a F-150 and a F-250.

Both of them hit, my truck ignored. They were annoyed watching the security video of my truck being ignored to hit theirs.

My advice? Don't leave it in the truck, carry.

I have a 2022 F150. What changes should I be making to my truck to secure it? Ravelco?

Was this in San Antonio?

Ravelco is to prevent theft of the truck itself. This thread is about securing items (guns) inside the truck with a console vault/safe.

But, my research seems to show Ravelco is the best bet. However, I use remote start quite often. So, to me, the smallish risk of having my truck stolen isn't worth losing the perk of remote start. I know others disagree with me, though.

That's all well and good until I go some place where I can't carry, hence the question.

One might consider carrying in all locations that don't perform a casual search or require going through a metal detector to gain entrance. I am not suggesting you or anyone else break the law as we all have our own decisions to make regarding carrying or secure storage of our firearms.

I use a lock box with a cable and hide the box under the seat. It's large enough for a pistol and an extra magazine. Maybe it's not completely secured, but the thief would have to have a bolt cutter or other tools to get to the pistol. I also use the lock box as the in-house security, if I'm traveling and staying at someone else's house

Isn't the general consensus on both the OB and f16, that you should carry regardless and just agree to leave when/if called out for carrying.

Yes. Sometimes that isn't a reasonable solution.

Most of the compact lock boxes that you would cable to a car seat can also be bolted down in the trunk of a car.

I have a small box bolted down in the storage around the spare in my vehicle that doesn't have room for a console vault.

If you drove a 1999 to a 2008 Chevy pickup, it comes with a great spot.

The cup holder pulls straight up, and there's room for a pistol.

Find a spot under the hood to install a lockbox. Theives want quick and easy stuff to steal. Leave a couple bucks in the cupholder, then lock the gat up under the hood. They will never open the hood and look unless they saw you placing something in there.

Beware of hotels btw. Sometimes you'll have a desk clerk feeding info to their buddies about the maga shirt, nra hat wearing boomer that just checked in to a room.

The door handle design is different now…lot tougher to break into.

I wouldn't want to leave my firearm in this but I do think its an interesting carry option.

It does lock at the top and have a wire rope to secure the device in the truck but an average thief would have it out with hand tools. It would slow or stop the smash and grab type of hit.

Nearly had something like this happen to me. I went to NOLA to buy my SS and for some stupid reason told the clerk this when they asked about my trip. I woke up the next morning to find my room door cracked open, but luckily the little top reinforcement lock was pinned open and kept them from coming in. This was after my wife and I were mugged while walking down Bourbon earlier that night.

Dude, yeah. Nawlins is bad M'kay?

Theivery runs rampant there. This is a town where you really need a drop wallet and to put your pistol in your boot.
