Looking for the boards thoughts. I driven a GM truck or SUV for my entire life. Thinking about making a switch to Ford, but a little nervous.

Any thoughts on comparing the two, pros / cons would be much appreciated.

The biggest complaint I've heard about Fords is they ride loud / have some rattles. Any experience with this?

I'd have guessed your complaint to go the other way. I'm not sure I've been in a recent GM truck that hasn't developed clunks or rattles within the first year.

Edit: Not that Fords are the end all, but it seems like a strange complaint coming from a GM guy.

Not my complaint, just comments I've heard from other people.

Back in April I went from a 2021 GMC Sierra AT4 to a 2022 F150 and definitely do not regret it.

I think the half ton AT4 is the much better looking of the two, at least the exterior is. Interior is meh. F-150 is the overall better truck.

Test drove them and believe I'm going with the Ford. Only thing I noticed was the transmission was a little jumpy.

The question now becomes 5.3L V8 or the EcoBoost. I do mostly city / highway driving, with some ranch driving on the weekends. Looking mostly for reliability.

You mean 5.0L

Do you plan to tow much regularly? I'm not talking Uhaul trailers to help move your wife's parents, but rather do you have a boat or travel trailer that you regularly pull with your truck?

Sounds like the 2.7L Ecoboost is the ideal truck for what you want.

If you regularly tow something heavy, go with the 3.5L Boost. If you occasionally tow something heavy and you want to feel and sound like a man with your big ole truck nutz, get the 5.0L and glasspacks

Sorry yes 5.0L, still stuck on GM engine sizes.

Getting the King Ranch trim, so it looks like the 5.0L V8 and the 3.5L EcoBoost are the only options. Don't tow much.

go 5.0 then. sounds much better and more reliable than the 3.5.

I'd also probably go with the 5.0L then, mostly because it gives you that old school V8 truck engine sound and feel vs. the spoolyboi power of the Boost.

I've had the 5.0 and the 3.5 EB engines. Liked them both, but really like the 3.5 EB engine and had my 2022 built with the 3.5L.

Glad you test drove both. To me it's purely a personal decision as they are both good trucks. I've owned 2 1500's and 2 F150s and liked them all. As for your next question on engine option, again you can't go wrong with either but I would recommend go test drive them back to back. Doesn't matter if you're in a king ranch or lariat, just to get a feel for the engine, how it pairs with the transmission, how it sounds and feels to you. Then pick that one that makes you the happiest and don't look back.

If I were to be choosing today, I personally would go King Ranch with the 3.5L Ecoboost (although truthfully I would try to talk myself into the Powerboost )

I have 2019 XLT with the 2.7. Bought it new and have put 105K on it in 3 years. Other than the ****ty shift sequence out of 3rd gear, it's been great.

No rattles. Very quiet and smooth.

I've got a 2015 with the 5.0 and it's been flawless for 203,000 miles.

My experience with the late model f-150's are IWEs going out (4wd issue). Cam phasers rattle on the ecoboost idling like shaking a box of rocks. Finally having one of the cylinders lose compression before 200k miles with the suggest fix of a new engine.

I am trying a Silverado 3.0 duramax now. The seats are worse than the ford but no issues in 39k miles so far.

Newer 3.5 EB F150's have revised cam phaser so that's not much of a concern any longer. (I think Q4 19 builds and newer).

I have a '20 3.5 and love it - best driving truck I've ever had. I imagine the 5.0 is going to be less maintenance over time, but I'm willing to trade more fun now for a little more maintenance in the later years of the truck.

I've been been religious about GM for my entire life. I've never even looked the direction of a ford or dodge.

Well I bought a 22 lariat recently and man. Going from a 2015 All terrain to this is life changing. Got the powerboost so the added generator function is going to come in super handy during football season.

(I would've bought an AT4 months ago if could've found one that wasn't spoken for. Glad I didn't.)
