Because all the technology built into trucks today... IS the problem.
Are you sure? Because it notified him he has bad fuel.

Check the MAP sensor. See what it looks like. I don't know that this is fuel related. I mean, it may be coincidental but I don't think it's your root cause. A cursory search online seems to show this to be a pretty common problem related to MAP, MAF, plugged vent in the fuel tank Someone said they loosened their fuel cap and the light went away. LOL.

I haven't tried the fuel cap thing yet, but I've seen it online. The MAF was cleaned the first time. I just hope it's not the injectors. Those are expensive. The truck runs fine and fuel mileage hasn't changed

*fingers crossed and knocking on wood*

Tried the fuel cap thing. Loosened it earlier this week and left it like that.

Went to HEB after golf this morning and when I came out and started the truck the CEL was gone.

West Side GMC wanted $5,800+ for a new set of injectors.

Hope it holds up

I have been buying diesel at Buccees in Denton and Fort Worth for years and have never had a fuel problem. Maybe the Duramax is more susceptible to it than the Fords. I also run a tank with fuel treatment in it every 5,000 miles. Keeps the injectors clean.
So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

The first link I found showed the injectors are $1,500.

The dealer want's ~40-hours of labor to replace them?

I'd have to pull the quote if I still have it. I think it was $2,400 in parts and the rest labor
