I think I've talked the better half into a Mini Van (No Rule 1)

I know KIA came out with the Carnival recently. Toyota makes the sienna in a hybrid which is appealing in the the current gas market.

I think I want something AWD but not totally committed.

What does the old wise Auto board say?? Any new overhauls on the horizon. I believe I read online Honda hasn't touched the Odyssey since 2018.

Order one now. Your kids may be in college by the time you get it.

I have a Pacifica right now as a long term rental and it's really nice. It's a plug-n hybrid. Ride is very smooth and interior is loaded. Tech is really easy to use. Plano to Galveston yesterday and will go around 400 miles today.

I would agree with this (I'm an Odyssey owner)

I would say that #3 is a distant #3....

If going awd, I'd go sienna over Pacifica.

We're happy with our 2021 Odyssey

I had one in Colorado last week, plugged in twice and got 40mpg over 1,000 miles in the mountains. Tech was cool, like the famcam, and good radio.

I'd still go with a hybrid Sienna, I got 34 mpg going to San Antonio from Houston recently. Not plug in.

If you've gotta have AWD, then Sienna. That said, we felt the Odyssey seats were much more comfortable, and have been very happy with our 2020.

I don't have to have AWD. Just think it might be nice.

Can be talked out of it

Siennas at my contact are 18-24 months out

I've driven one on rentals for 5000+ miles, heck of a vehicle. Even for a minivan.

2018 Odyssey here with 50,000 miles on it. Zero issues and still looks like the day we bought it.

2019 Odyssey.

Just purchased in May 2022 (surprisingly through carvana - best deal by nearly 7k).

It is really hard to beat the cabinwatch, magic slide seats, fully removable mid-row, and the near layflat back seat.

Are all Siennas equipped with CVT? Seems like that would be a reason to avoid them.

Do any minivans not have CVTs?

Damn, was not aware these had a Porn Option Package.

May have to check into these.

Odyssey, Carnival, and gas Pacifica have conventional torque converter automatic transmissions. Siennas and the Plug-in Pacifica have "CVT" transmissions, but they aren't chains / belts and increasing / decreasing diameter cones like the classic CVT. They are quite elegant gear sets that allow the ICE and 2 electric motors to balance the propulsion and electrical generation required for hybrid operation in multiple modes.

If you hate the way classic CVTs drive, these have a different feeling, but you may not like them either. If you are worried about CVT reliability based on the problems Nissan, and to some extent Honda, have had with their more classic CVT designs, I wouldn't lump these into that same category of distrust.

Really long but informative video on the Pacifica "SI-EVT" The instructor says the Toyota one is very similar, and they all basically "copied" the approach GM took with the Volt to allow multiple combinations of propulsion including both electric motors and the ICE to all power the wheels at the same time.

Yes, that would have been my objection.

Hey, when the kids are with the grands, you have at it.

But for us, it helps to confirm the kids in the back are buckled up, the slide seats help let kids get in the back easily, and plywood and 2x4s are no problem with the lay flats.

But again, you can use it however you see fit.

Is it just impossible to find one of these new? We're going to pay off one car and then start hunting, but we're going to have a fairly tight window of a few months before our new kids arrive.

Am I going to end up overpaying for a slightly used one?

I was looking and looking for an odyssey for months. But by looking, I mean we were checking online inventories and then when we saw one calling the dealership only to learn it was already sold.

Finally, I just went into a dealership and got a good saleswoman who was able to look at what they had coming in and I put a $500 deposit on one. Already told her I'd pay $4500 above MSRP. That's what finally got one in my garage.

I don't know why any of the other salesmen could have done that for me.
