Toyota Sequoia - parked in doctor's office parking garage in Bellaire.

I'm going to be without my SUV for an estimated 100 days. Insurance covers enough for me to get an Impala. Going on a driving vacation before I get my car back. Five of us. I'm going to have to rent a different car for vacation.

Scumbags.

If you can put that metal plate under your car to protect your catalytic converters from theft, I recommend that you do it as soon as possible. It costs a whole lot less and will be a whole lot less hassle than getting your catalytic converter stolen

Given your listed timeframe, it doesn't sound like you've called around to any exhaust shops. I recommend doing so.

What are the odds that they're going to use Toyota replacement parts?

It doesn't matter.

Have an exhaust place put a pipe in place of the cat until the the new cat comes in. Then replace it.

Absolutely no reason to use OE cats. If you go str8 pipe, you won't have to worry about cats being stolen or additional cost of a cat shield.

That might not fly in an emissions inspection county.

Yes he will need cats before the inspection. Or maybe the spacers.

Harris County. Must have catalytic converters.

My inspection station will pass anything.

I sprayed my Seq cats with bright orange paint (which cooked off to flourescent yellow oddly) hoping these scum will skip me and move on. That said, i kinda would like to run straight pipes and see how she runs...

OP as others have said check with muffler shop turnaround times. Toyota outsources cats, they dont make them. These things are a commodity.

Go talk to exhaust shops. OEM is not your only option here

Looks like that law passed in September hasn't made a big impact on deterring these :/

100 days? take it to Aces and get it repaired in 1 day.

Called Aces they can do it in ONE DAY!!! However, they are near Hobby airport and that's a pretty long drive for me. Can anyone recommend a shop on the west side of Houston? Think Jersey Village, Cypress, Spring Branch, or Memorial areas.

Also, I guess I'm willing to move away from OEM. I would prefer parts that aren't made in China. What are some reputable catalytic converters brand names, preferably American made?

I would guess a place named Aces near Hobby Airport is buying lots of stolen cats.

They use new magna flow brand cats.

It is my understanding that all of these stolen cats are actually being sold for scrap metal at junkyards or metal recyclers. They're not being sold on the secondary market. Maybe if they were being sold on the secondary market I could just buy mine back and have my OEM put back on my car and have my car back now.

Aces is good people, a friend of mine is their tuner. I use them for my exhaust work and dyno tuning.

They're a standup group of dudes and worth the drive imo

Had a couple of friends use Mayco Muffler Shop at 1639 Gessner. They were well pleased with the work and high recommended him. They had Tundras

Is this the place on north loop?
Silvy

There are multiple Ace's locations in Houston. The location which I speak of is at Fairmont & Strawberry in Pasadena. I just realized the location the OP probably spoke to is off Clearwood in south Houston.

I've been to both multiple times and prefer the Fairmont location.

Oh, evidently there's one in the Heights now. That's a whole lot closer to me.

I gotcha. Yeah I just went to one the other week for some ball joints, north loop. I'll keep this in mind for the future

Just bought a '22 Tundra in Brenham a month ago. The dealership there adds cat guard plates to every new vehicle they sell.

Worth it, in my opinion.

I agree. I'm adding to my car when I'm done.

I'm listening to Brazos County law enforcement scanner on Broadcastify

In the past ten minutes UPD has had two calls for stolen cats. One in lot 40d and one in lot 55.

A Tundra and a Sequoia.

The Middle East has a better solution.
