'21 Denali owner here… wife drives it and loves it. I love the 6.2L and the dash is super nice… way better than ford IMO. The only thing I LOATHE is the 20g fuel tank and how it seems like I'm always filling up. But since it's her car I guess the only time I'm driving it is when she needs gas, haha. Other than that, it's great. I've towed a camper no prob. Again… just thirsty.

24g right? I think that's pretty standard (my 08 tahoe was 24, maybe 26?). I think the XLs are 28g.

I hear ya on filling up. My dad has the 6.2 and we were having to stop every 180 miles or so on an RV trip to CO - where my f150 with max tow could go almost 300.

Does it take mid grade or just regular unleaded?

Did they shrink the Suburban/Yukon XL tanks down that much? My dad's 2003 had a 33 gallon tank!

Appears so. We had a '95 3/4 ton diesel suburban growing up… it had a 40 gallon tank!

No idea when anything towing will be available. That is.. tow hooks, trailer brake controller, etc.

I got this wild ass addendum about not being able to tow in it.

No skid plates. $90k SUV and it doesn't even have folding mirrors?. You can't even get captains chairs when you order because of allocations. I haven't seen a single one in DFW with the HD tow package.

The new Uconnect system is trash. $5k McIntosh sounds system is barely above a standard Bose in GM products.

Don't get me wrong… it's a nice car, I'm just scared ****less these things are going to be lemons.

Hell, they announced the Grand Wagoneer is going AWAY from the 6.4L and putting the new v6 turbo in it.

Customer service and dealership have been absolutely worthless. CDJR was nowhere near ready to launch a luxury SUV line.

Eff that, I'm going to Sewell.
so you bought a $90k suv wanting skid plates, folding mirrors, captains chairs, a good audio system, wanting to tow, but knowing it doesn't have trailer brake controlls, or tow hooks and you're having buyers remorse??? that's shocking

Aftermarket trailer brake controllers are an easy add on

Dealership said we could order all that no problem.

Now… crickets, but thanks for the derail again.

Before piling on, I'm usually not an impulsive buyer but this market got me real antsy so I sort of settled for something after not being able to even SIT in a Tahoe or Yukon due to availability.

We traded in an '08 tahoe if you'd like to get an idea of how long I plan to run this thing.

I got in a big hurry and was planning on ordering one until allocations killed the desired options. Saw one on the lot that had everything but 2 options and got it for sticker. I love the car but feel we're going to run into issues years from now with the dealership and lack of support on these things.

The truth is, we'll be just fine either way, so appreciate your concern.

I started the thread to ask what people thought about the new denalis. That's it.

They are but I'd rather have the integrated one.

The OP knows the situation. No need to pile on.

I applaud the OP. Most people when spending that type of money wouldn't admit to a single flaw and swallow any disappointment deep down never to be spoken of. We're getting real honesty here and I appreciate it. There are probably plenty of others looking into these that I'm sure are grateful to have this info.

The guy with the baby duramax hasn't replied but from every first hand account I've heard the MPG is excellent, 28ish MPG highway.

Thanks! Fingers crossed we can actually get an allocation on one. I hear they're damn near impossible to get now.

I've already had a nightmare about my wife putting unleaded in it lol. And told her as such. She's never put diesel in a vehicle before (not as if it's any different).

Any idea on how often the DEF needs changing and the equipment cleaning? I'm curious what maintenance in those look like.

Check the Denali forums. When we were looking last summer there were lots of issues mentioned. Wife still wanted one and then we couldn't get one before they were snatched up in transit.

Ended up getting used Escalade and not the new model. Used new models were over 100k, crazy

The wife received a Denali 3 weeks ago with the baby duramax. Can't really comment a whole lot on it since this is her daily driver, but she really likes it. Had an Infiniti qx 80 prior to the Denali. It has good enough power, but maybe a slightly stiffer suspension than the qx 80.

Nice! How much longer did you have to wait to get the duramax? I'm on the fence about it and from what I've heard, the allocations on it are slim Pickens due to demand. Dealership told us the ultimate package (with airbags and rear-seat entertainment) will be 7-8 months likely.

The 6.2 guzzles gas and I'd really like the idea of a diesel that'll last 200k miles with ease. Is it really getting over 20mpg and upwards of 25-27 on the Highway?

I just looked, mpg is 18.4 but she has been exclusively driving in town. We bought it from a dealership in Louisiana and she met the salesperson in Houston to pick up and was averaging mid 20s driving back.

She got very obsessive about finding the car she wanted. She got on Denali forums and found ways to look at dealer inventory before they even knew something was coming their way. Once she found the one she wanted, it took over 2 months to be delivered from the Arlington plant storage lot to the dealership. That was some BS to have a completely built and sold car just sit…in a parking lot…waiting to be transported. They gave some sad story about COVID and truck driver shortage but I don't buy it. I think it was her complaining to gm and the transportation company incessantly that delayed them from delivering the vehicle.

Hah! That lot has been full for months - waiting on chips. Completely built vehicles just waiting on ancient chips

Curious to know how she found out about the allocations. Care to share?

Nope, not the same as the incomplete chip lot. Her car was built October 27 of 2021, completed with no chip deficits. Was not delivered to dealer until first week of January 2022. Again, they claim was due to lack of drivers

Get ready for the complaints about how bad the pump smells, and how after she puts fuel in it her hands smell like diesel. One of my buying decisions on a BabyMax Yukon is going to be how much I'm going to hate having to put fuel in my wife's daily driver all the time. It will eliminate the unleaded nightmare, but that is a real consideration, and my wife is not even close to high maintenance, but I can hear it coming…YMMV

Lol thanks. We always had a pair of gloves in the truck growing up because of that. I'll probably do the same for her. Good thing though is that with the amount of miles she puts on it, she probably only fills up once or twice a month.

GM recommends 93 octane for the 6.2, you can probably get by with a lesser fuel, but the performance will be noticeably affected. I'd definitely run 93 when towing to avoid detonation.

Re: 3.92 vs 3.55 gearing, the axle ratio is only half of the equation, transmission gearing also plays a huge role. Also consider weight difference of the vehicles, I suspect the Jeep is a fair bit heavier.

First off, I'm not bashing you, get what you want. You're obviously successful, the current market is crazy, I personally don't think you'll make money but don't think you'll be out much, either.

But......I do think it's quite funny that on your rule 1 thread I simply stated I thought it looked like a suburban, not a negative comment, I thought it looked great and said so as well. But you kind of jumped on me saying it's nothing like a suburban, the interior isn't even comparable. Now you're trading it in for a........Denali, even saying you'd put the interior of the Denali up with the Wagoneer.

We love our new Denali. You have to take some time to call around or just order. Sewell starting at 4-6 week wait and it quickly stretched out to months. I was able to grab one from a smaller town dealer that had a customer back out on their order once it was delivered. We got lucky because it had every single thing we wanted when building the order including both exterior and interior color. In my opinion it is over the top in terms of "stuff" it comes with.

Ours is the 6.2 and we put 93+ in it. I am sure the duramax gets better gas mileage, but that 6.2 is a beast on the road.

interior on a denali is much different, in my opinion than the suburban. Chevrolet is about 100% plastic mold injected everything - looks very 2004. And the High Country... holy chrome batman.

I'd still say the Wagoneer interior is above the Denali but I'd give some there to get more reliability, a 3.0 duramax, folding mirrors, rearview mirror camera, HD tow package, electronic LSD, and a rear glass hatch that opens... at a lower MSRP than the Wagoneer, overall. The Denali infotainment system is also going to a full-time Google system with OTA updates and 3 years included of connected services. Stellantis struck out with the UConnect system thus far... it's so damn buggy. Literally a roll of the dice if the Nav screen even comes up and takes a solid minute to turn on when you crank the car. IMO, the new Ford SYNC system is the best and most responsive.. I love it in my F150. If I didn't have to wait another 12+ months for the Timberline I'd have one of those in the queue right now.

I still think the Wagoneer rides smoother... a lot smoother than the Denali but I think this is more of a "shouldn't have bought a first gen model vehicle even if it hits you in the feels because you grew up driving around in a Woody with your grandparents".
