Need y'all opinion…
We are trying to decide between a 2022 Cadillac Escalade or 2022 GMC Yukon Denali. We originally just considered the Denali, but after poking around on the Cadillac website, it seems as if you could get a lower tier Escalade for close to what a Denali would cost. The biggest difference would be a panoramic sunroof. You would have to step up to the next package on the Cadillac, ($9,000+) to get that option. I'm assuming the rides are very similar. Also, I tried looking back at KBB to see what one would hold their value better and they are comparable. Maybe a few thousand higher with the Escalade.

The plan is to keep this vehicle for the next 8-10 years. She has the midsize Cadillac SRX now (2010 with 99,000 miles) and its been a great car. With a growing family, we need more space for them. Not too worried about cargo space since we take my F150 most of the time for long trips.

The 2022 Escalade is priced at $78,970 for a new build.
Looks like GMC hasn't released the 2022 Yukon just yet, so based off 2021, the Denali price is $72,745.
A difference of $6225. However, if you search for current inventory for the 2021 Denali, they are priced closer to that $76-78k range.

What would y'all recommend? Is it worth spending $6k more for a car we expect to keep for 8-10 years?

I would get the Cadillac for sure. I like the interior of the Cadillac much better, and your ongoing dealership experience (for maintenance, warranty issues, etc.) is likely to be far better.

Loved my Escalade when I had it. Given the new technology and the overall comfort and ride, I'd go with the Escalade 100%.

They're both nice but the escalades look amazing.

IMO, $6,500 over the cost of 7-10 years is a small price to pay to be able to walk into a dealership if something IS wrong and expect both quick resolution and a loaner when you own their highest-priced, flagship SUV. My mother-in-law got a Navigator for that reason. She could have gotten a Ford cheaper with a lesser inside but being able to expect (and receive) the best service and treatment because she has a Navigator has been helpful to her in the last 10 years she's had the vehicle.

Thanks for the feedback so far!
Yes, agree! The services and loaner car are worth something. Oh, and the free car washes!!

Dang, wife gets the escalade while you piddle around in an f150! Good game, wife.

Haha.
Well, she definitely works twice as hard as me, so she's earned it! Pretty sure I out kicked my coverage, too.

Yea, a trained monkey could do my job, but there isn't a snowballs chance in hell I could do what my wife does. I'm glad she is happy with a middle of the road SUV! Oh and there's no doubt I outkicked mine.

Which one is cheaper when you add seat cooler package? That's all that matters.

I could be making this up completely, but I seem to remember my GMC service manager said something about Cadillac working towards shutting down their service operations soon (years, not months) as they move towards all electric. Maybe worth investigating for a 10 year car.

Also, GMC parts are probably easier to come by, if that matters.

All of the GM full size SUVs look bad ass right now but the Escalade is on another planet. That thing is beautiful.

Crazy how many $70k SUVs are on the road these days.

The pricing is insane, but at least the cars themselves are ultra bad ass. Just when I don't think a car can be more luxurious, they make it even better. The Escalade is a real head turner.

can you even buy an Escalade for sticker?

I have a good friend in the business, he just bought his wife a Yukon XL Denali… 5k miles… his GM 'hook-up' got him a deal of only $10k over sticker..$90k+ out the door.

Made me gag a little as it's the exact car I want to buy my wife.

I have a buddy that just bought a Yukon Denali for $5k over MSRP. Dealer told him he had 2 hours to decide because they had a huge waiting list.

Do you know if that situation was $5k over on a car on the floor? My guy at Sewell said the cars on the floor (new and used) were selling higher then cars being ordered online. Mainly because some folks don't want to wait 4-6 months (or maybe can't wait) and are willing to pay more to get in the car ASAP. Wild times for sure!

I got the impression it was a dealer demo, or vehicle the GM drove.

I'd be curious what you find out though.. it's been hard to find exactly what we want, so I'm thinking about ordering one as well.

Wait a minute, how would that work? If you get on Cadillac's website and build the car you want, then designate a certain dealer for it to be delivered to, can that dealer just add $10k onto the top of it before they sell it to you? I can see this on a vehicle on the lot, but a special order too???
Some dealers are doing this; yes.

I would look for a dealer that won't add a mark-up above sticker and order through them. I don't know which Cadillac dealers will do that.

I know as a comparison point that certain dealers will not add a markup on Corvettes that you order through them, but they will add a huge premium for preowned. You can order through Ciocca (FKA Kerbeck) and get a new Corvette at MSRP (after a long wait), or you can buy a very low mileage preowned C8 from them off the showroom floor for tens of thousand more. I would guess you could order the same way from a Cadillac dealer and get it at MSRP if you are willing to wait.

He was called by the dealer and said they had one on the lot that matched his specs and that he had 2 hours to decide and that it was $5k over MSRP with negotiations. Final offer. He took it.

I remember the 1st year of the Escalade '98 or '99? My Pops was smitten and rushed out and got one. Was then reading in the auto mags about how that vehicle was exactly a Denali, and the sole resource Cadillac had invested into it was sending an employee out to the GM plant for a few days to train the line how to re-badge with the Cadillac emblems. This obviously turned out to be Cadillac's most profitable launch of a new vehicle ever. I seem to remember him paying about 10K more than a Denali at the time. I always had dreams about what I would have done with that 10K, but I got over it. He may have benefitted from the high-end Cadillac service, I don't know. I do know that he was born in the '30's so was squarely in the bulls-eye of that era when it was considered the pinnacle of demonstrative success to own a Cadillac. Good memories and glad he got there.

So you had dreams about what you could have done with your pops well-earned money that he deserved to spend on himself? That's seems kind of messed up.

Yes...it's a recurring dream wherein pops and I are in a Goodwill. In that weird dream-logic way I'm understood to be the adult and he's the kid. He's looking at all the plastic toy junk and finds a Cadillac hood ornament. It's got a $10,000 price tag, which horrifies me, and yet I feel compelled to let him have it.

My rule is the car has to be less than 10% of my annual gross income. I feel like an LOLPOOR because I can't afford the vehicles discussed in this thread.. Thank goodness mrs couldn't careless about cars and actually shoot me if I went out and spent that kind of money on a depreciating asset like a car..

normally I am in your'e camp, but vehicle aren't really depreciating at the moment. It is actually a scary thought. $78k right now. What will they cost five years from now? $150k because of Uncle Joe's economic prowess?
