Working on closing a deal to sell my car to an individual. Any advice on the most secure way to complete the transaction? Cashier check, bill of sale signed by buyer and seller?

Texas, the sold vehicle's license plates remain with the seller; they do not become the buyer's property. Make sure to remove them since they can ultimately be transferred to another vehicle. You'll also need to remove the registration sticker.Mar 4, 2021
Cashier's check is fine, just meet at their bank to finalize the deal and verify funds.EMY92 said:
Anyone with a decent printer can create a fake cashiers check.
Get cash or use a wire transfer.
That's an option if the party seems trustworthy. There are several "how to spot a fake check" type sites I would review before accepting it either way. And if you go that route, make sure you look up the banks number on your own and don't just trust the number of the check.BmtAg96 said:
Regarding cashiers check. I do not have the sellers bank in my home town. What about calling the buyers issuing bank to verify check is valid?
Similar to the cashier's check, you can go with them to the county tax office to ensure this happens. It's a pain in the ass that likely isn't necessary, but the only way to guarantee it happens.BmtAg96 said:
The 130-U is an application for Texas Title. The buyer would need to complete this and file with their local tax assessor, correct? I would not be a party to this, correct?
See bottom "Signature of Seller..."BmtAg96 said:
