Odyssey vs Pacifica - AWD question

I'm pretty settled on the Odyssey but I still want to look at a Pacifica. I'm really intrigued by the availability of AWD but wondering if I'm making too big of a deal out of that.

Only reasons for wanting it is if we take a trip to Colorado to go skiing it would be nice to have. Also, when we go down to the coast, we just have to pull the bay boat from under the house 1/4 mile to the boat ramp and then pull the boat back out of the water at the end of the trip and put it back under the house. The ramp is very very easy. Not steep at all.

Dry weight of a 21' shallow sport is 1000 lbs.

Honda has the Odyssey in stock, I could go buy it right now and come home with it.

There aren't any Pacifica's around town for me to look at at all. I'm not in a rush by any means, but I wonder if it's even worth waiting around for a Pacifica to come in to go look at when the main thing I'm interested in is AWD.

How much does AWD move the needle in y'all's opinion? Everyday use is just to be a regular run around town van.

This is also a major concern as well

I live in the Midwest, when snow is on the ground I always kick myself for not getting our Sienna with AWD. If you want a minivan with AWD I'd go Toyota before Chrysler.

I own a Honda Odyssey now. It is the biggest piece of junk lemon i have ever owned. I will never own another as long as i live. They know it's broken but just don't want to spend the money to fix it right. So instead they leave the customer hanging.

We have a 2018 Odyssey that has been bulletproof over 42,000 miles so far. I'd never ever even consider a Chrysler product.

What year model?

OP

The second row legroom is much less on a Pacifica if your front passenger has any height. With front seat all the way back, my knees were touching the back of the front seat when I sat in the second row during test drive.

No experience with the AWD.

360 camera was nice on Pacifica.

Most mini vans can tow 2500-3500lb. A short tow of a boat is nothing, and they're adequate to launch if they're not too heavy.

Dang I'm really sorry to hear you've had a bad experience. That's discouraging.

Most people I've talked to that have them seem to be really happy with them.

Exactly why we bought it. But alas it was a bad decision. If you go that direction i wish you better luck than me.

7yr 100k mile Honda Care extended warranty was $2510 when I priced it for a 2022 model.

As a two time Odyssey owner and having owned 6 Honda's, you didn't make a bad decision. You just got a bad one. The fact they won't make it right really sucks.

To the OP, I can't even fathom getting a Chrysler over a Honda. An AWD odyssey would be great though. Disappointing they don't offer that.

We have a 2018 Odyssey.

It's been in the shop a couple of days ones for recall and a bad control arm. Replaced under warranty. Other than that it's been fine and I'm sure it'll last as long as I take care of it It serves it's purpose as a minivan and has some well thought out family features.

I don't see anything special about it from a quality perspective. Statistically better than Chrysler for sure, but I think Honda is living on past reputation on durability. I'll certainly take advantage of the higher resale that garners, but I don't hold it above any other decent brand. Not on Toyotas level.

The infotainment is mediocre and glitchy. They're known to eat motor mounts because of the cylinder deactivation. The adaptive cruise is mediocre, also due to clunky cylinder deactivation. The auto start stop is the worst iteration I've ever seen(of an admittedly stupid feature).

I'd buy another one under the right circumstances, but since the Sienna and Carnival are all new since we bought our Odyssey, I'd probably put it 3rd on my list. The Pacifica I'd only buy as the Hybrid and only as long as I had warranty.

I'm really going to have to check the Toyota out. I believe the last time I looked at one they didn't have as many little features that were kind of cool the way the Honda did

The Sienna has a weird dash, and the sliding/removal feature of the Honda second row is nicer. More headroom in Honda than Sienna and more comfortable seats.

We had an 09 Sienna, but made the switch to Honda last week. The Sienna had an oil hose go bad, but it was mainly the power mirrors and third row folding seats we had issues with on the old one. The engine started having a ticking sound so we upgraded.

I haven't been in it yet, but the new one is way better looking. And they're all hybrids.

But it does have an available feature the Odyssey lacks, AWD. We test drove them both and liked both but the salesman at Honda turned us off so hard we refused to buy one. The Toyota might not be as up to date as the Honda, but only you can figure out what is best for you. If you need the latest gadgets and gizmos then Odyssey would be the pick. Our 2015 has about 80k miles, it's only needed regular maintenance and tires.

I've driven the new Sienna and can't imagine any of its competitors are close.

Pacifica is getting a lot of hate from folks who either don't read or don't put much weight in Consumer Reports. Last "Car Issue" I read, they were all about the Chrysler (Fiat) minivans.

Because CR gave a review of a platform that's only 4 years old. People are giving more weight to Chrysler's decades long track record. Which is completely reasonable. Reliability isn't #1 on my priority list, but it's a fair concern.

This. So many NeVeR a DoDgE people. I've had three and racked up over 250,000 miles between them and never once had an issue. It's the same as the "Kia sucks" crowd that have no experience with them outside of 2005z

2020 Odyssey in eastern PA. Drove the Sienna, and we didn't hate it, but my wife loved the second row seat with the side-slide in the Odyssey. With a 2 month old in a car seat for a 1500 mile drive, she was far more comfortable in it than she would have been in the middle seat of the Sienna.

I was a little on the fence regarding AWD, but it really handled the snow ok this year. If you're really concerned about it, get a set of snow tires. Traction is more important than drive on snow.

We have a 2017 Pacifica about to roll over 100k. Only issue I had was the hose from the wiper fluid slipped off one of the connectors under the hood. Fixed in 10 minutes.

Can you get the AWD Pacifica with a hellcat engine?

Yeah when you google around and watch reviews on YouTube, the Pacifica gets a lot of praise.

The stow and go 2nd row is pretty sweet as well

No stow and go on their hybrid model, FYI.

The middle seats come out super easy, though. But it is a pain with carseats. Because everything is a pain with carseats.

The Hybrid is not rated for towing.

We have a 2020 Pac Hybrid Limited and have really loved it.

Toyota Sienna was the first minivan to offer AWD. Our first one was a 2011 when we lived in Colorado, and we got the Sienna specifically for AWD, because no other MV on the market had it (that we could find) at that time.

We just got a 2021 in December after the last was totaled, and have been pleases This one is not AWD, we live in TX again and AWD isn't worth the extra money here.

The hybrid makes a huge difference in gas mileage, we got about 18-19 on the old one, the new one is getting 35-36.

The only complaint is no spare tire. The dealership didn't even have one on the lot with a spare, though it's an available option if you order new directly from Toyota. Toyota is pushing their roadside service now. They include a tire repair kit and a pump standard now, which can help with a small hole, but if any major damage happens you don't have a spare to get you to a shop.

Just went and looked at a Pacifica in new braunfels this morning. It's definitely in play and I think might be what we end up going with.

Really like the stow and go 2nd row of seats. Man, when you put the second and third row seats down, that thing is enormous.

I also really like the individual screens on the back of each front row seat and the way they fold up.

I was very impressed

Make sure to check the comfort of the stow and go. They are convenient but I've heard they're not as comfortable due to the design that allows them to stow.
