So how do I disable Onstar so GM will stop selling my driving habits to insurance companies?

I checked the back of my obd port when I bought my truck back in 2019 but this thread got me paranoid seeing the ones behind my glovebox. Checked there and was good. Double checked the steering column and noticed some wires that didn't look stock. Followed them to a box haphazardly zip tied under the steering column. Got real worked up and was ready to get out the wire cutters before I remembered that it was the remote start/alarm unit that I installed myself lol. Glad I didn't have my cutters on me when I found it!

Holy thread bump, Batman.

Driving a cheap rental from Ace rent a car. I believe they have a tracker. Found it because it was hitting my foot. What do you think, leave it plugged in, or remove it while renting?

Just kidding, the rental agreement specifies that they are allowed to track

So are these hardwired into 2025 vehicles now? Shopping and wondering how much harder Apex has made to extract these devices. Really interested to see what new surprises the F150 has hidden.

Sending up the 1Ags bat signal...

I'm curious as to the part on the right that is zip tied...and the little dongle thingy just up and to the right. The long zip tie holding the wiring together in the middle of the picture coincidentally brushed my foot as I was backing the car out of the driveway this morning. To orient us, what I'm supposed to believe is the OBD port just under the dash panel is to your left.

1Ags can verify, but it looks like you got Apex'd. The port on the right that is zip tied is the factory OBD port (blue clip confirms per 1Ags original post), so the port on the left would be the "false" Apex product.

Has anyone been able to pull the SIM card and get it to work in other devices?

Would be nice to get Apex to pay for a mobile hotspot.

Yup. I did before and they shut it off after a few days.

So where do things stand these days? I have a 2024 f150 with the ford pass, so am I not tracked 24/7 now anyways? I thought about just unhooking the whole modem, but didnt know if my sync 4 would still work correctly. I suppose the dealership could had added a second tracker.

Pretty sure I have this in my 2022 Ram that I bought a few months ago. There were some wires that I kicked with my left foot and I noticed an inline fuse and was going to come here and ask about it but life got in the way.

In addition to APEX, now the Manu are also tracking your vehicles and selling the data with the built in GPS Systems.

On my Ram truck I have no APEX product, but the Uconnect system tracks everything you do and sends it to Stelantis, even if you don't have a subscription.

This is what Google AI told me to do after I dug into the privacy settings menu to turn it off. Mine was under the "navigation" system and I had to turn off "record trip history".
