Second update. Do not connect with electric tape. Just the connectors and then the resistor on something metal. They apparently get very hot and burned through my electric tape.

How much did the replacement set cost?

I have 16 LTZ and already did the AC job. Now suspension issue.

Anyone had to replace the 3rd light in the back yet? I have and it's a cluster.

We have a Tahoe and love it - there's some quirky things occasionally (had an oil leak in the beginning that took 2-3 trips to shop to fix, fold in mirror issue that was an easy fix, backup camera issue, etc.). Love the ride of it and it feels sturdy.

We're at 90k miles, but I know people that have 200k+ on the same motor, and know a guy that runs commercial fleet that get 350-450k.

I don't have the LTZ though.

My wife drives a 2016 Tahoe LTZ with basically everything on it(humble brag) and it currently has 70k miles. We just replaced the AC coil for $1300 and now the Magnaride shocks need to be replaced which the dealership quoted $2200!! I think I'm going to do this myself although I may let a shop change the springs since I don't have a spring press.

Not to mention the "service driver assist is warning is on." Great vehicle up to 60k miles and then it goes to ***** Thanks for listening.
You don't want a spring press. Those coils have a ton of energy in them. And your lowest cost harbor freight spring compressor can't wait to slip, bend, or snap its way into sending you to the ER.

Fact. If you want to mess with springs, buy a real spring compressor.

They're $5-800, but much safer than the one you'll find at auto zone.

I've cheated death with the rental contraptions O'Reilly loans out a couple of times. F that. If springs are getting replaced, I'm handing the keys to a shop and lightening my wallet a bit. Worth it.

If I had a shop quality press/compressor I'd do it, but if I do enough spring swaps over the rest of my life to justify buying one, I'll be surprised.

Or buy new shocks with the springs attached already.

Props on going DIY, many shy away from suspension work

YouTube has saved me a lot of money through the years.

Do you have have a link for the video?

I've had this '09 LT since new and love working on it. All kinds of mods because it is so easy to work on and so many available parts. The only challenges I've had have been 2 alternators and the cracked dash, both easily handled.

Let me give you a glimpse into the future:

My 2016 4x4 Chevy Suburban half ton (which I believe is the same drivetrain as your Tahoe) just got a new TRANSMISSION to the tune of $5,000. It went out at 89k miles, and it happened very rapidly (over the course of < 1,000 miles).

Mechanic said its pretty common in these transmissions between 80k and 120k miles. They just make them less durable.

4 weeks after mine went out, my sisters 2015 2x4 Suburban 1500 had the exact same issue @92k miles.

Man. May let this thing go and get a 4 runner.

As a former 4runner owner, I just don't get the love. It is below average in every category except reliability. A camry has more power. The transmission is awful. Towing is horrible for anything more than a jet ski. Ride is terrible. The front end dive is completely dangerous. Fuel economy is horrible, and you are literally the slowest car on the road.

Yeah it lasts a long time but that just means you are stuck with it forever. At least they bring good resale value since mom's love getting groceries in them.

We had this same problem a few years ago. I started a thread about it then and we got lucky with the dealership. Both front shocks replaced for ~$640 in Sugar Land. It wasn't under warranty either.

Sounds like you're going the route I am and not getting the magneride replacements because those alone are $800 just for the shocks.

This was in 2017. Dealership replaced both front magneride shocks for $640 total. I was told they put new magneride shocks in. If they put something else in, still rides good. I sorta made a stink about it to the service manager that I found out it was a common problem with these shocks and I shouldn't have to pay anything. The service guy was cool about and went out of his way to make sure I was taken care of. We were both satisfied that I paid just the labor cost. That $640 included another small fix with the AC. That AC May be something else that comes up for you if it hasn't been done already.

I wished I would have seen this thread earlier, I would have posted the dealership I went to. A few others have asked before. I'm not sure if it worked out for them though.

Sounds like you got a great deal! Wish I had that luck.
Yesterday,

Circling back to this. Lol. Our suburban is in the body shop getting fixed from being rear ended. The shop says two magneride shocks are leaking. It still drove fine prior to being rear ended. I didn't ask if it was the front or rears. Do they have maganeride on front and back or just the front? Idk

Anyways, I saw you replace them with alternative set. How do they feel? Recent quote from dealer is $695 per or $190 per for a non magneride shock.

This is not something I will being DIY.

Yesterday, do you have an update on the suspension replacement?

I have a '15 Tahoe and have had the exact same issues as mentioned above. Spend ~$800 on the AC and ~$1500 on new shocks.

The thing rides terrible and I took it to the dealership this time, and they quoted me >$3k to replace the shocks.

Other than that, I have really loved the vehicle….besides the rattles….

I pretty much stick to Ford and Toyota. Which sucks because my favorite looking vehicles are the AT4's.

If I could get a 5.7L Tundra engine and transmission, AT4 body, wheel, tires, and F150 interior / options / flat rear seat floorboards…..I would giddy to my hearts content. Toyota had there chance and absolutely blew it.

So now I'm back to eyeballing a 5.0 Tremor and 3.0 diesel AT4.

i had to have the radiator and a/c condensor replaced on our '15 yukon , however i did the rear shocks and air compressor myself. it might have been $350 or so, certainly not 1500 or 3k. Im guessing yours is the magnaride?

I also did the pinion seal myself.

Yes, magnaride.
