After months of hating Tesla Cybertruck, I came to appreciate the idea behind it, and decided to pre-order. Also decided that before I spent that kind of money, I needed to figure out if an EV was the right car for me. After a few months of debate between the Model 3 and Model Y, I decided to go with the Y.

I ordered the Y the last week of July, and put down my $100 deposit. Process was all online:

White/Long Range/Black Interior/20" Induction Wheels/No Full Self Drive

Delivery estimate was a painful 5-8 weeks at time of order. Estimate has been spot on. Received VIN exactly a month after ordering.

Sold my beautiful F150....sigh...BUT great private sale experience with fellow Ag here.

Since Texas is a "no direct vehicle sales" state, I had to provide funding before they will ship vehicle. Initial delivery date of 9/15 received the next day. Appears the car will arrive from CA to the Service Center tomorrow morning. I should be able to pick up no later than the 11th.

I will update further on delivery day. Very excited.

Cool. I got mine in April. Are you getting any extras - tow hitch, dedicated home charger, homelink, paint protection film, ceramic coating?

Having a 14-50 outlet installed in the garage. Will provide cost/effort update once done this week.

Also doing ceramic coating, will do an update for that as well.

Debating window tint.

Confused by how buying a model Y helps you dodge a financial bullet with the cyber truck??

That said, nice purchase!! I have a model 3, but would have gone with Y if available last year. You will love it!

Car arrived a week early.

Zero issues with panel gaps or any of the other unfortunate issues other people have run in to.

Express Delivery currently. Could have been in and out in 5 minutes. Didn't even have to talk to anyone on site. Pretty simple.

More updates to come.

Got home and was able to give it a good once over. Very pleased with the paint job overall after all the horror stories I had read online. Had a tough time even finding swirl marks....though eventually I did. Driver side back mirror trim isn't flush. Only panel I found with an issue.

Still don't have my 14-50 outlet installed yet, so trickle charging for now, or going to supercharger in town.

Got tempered glass installed over center screen. Samsung SSD installed for Sentry Mode. Floor mats installed.

Next steps, paint correction and ceramic coat.

Congrats!

For the NEMA 14-50, do you just plan on using the UMC or do you plan on getting the HPWC with the 14-50 pigtail?

I see you have a few accessories already but if you don't already know, I highly recommend getting a center console USB hub like the one from TapTes. They also have many other accessories that you might find useful that don't break the bank.

I never understood the front bumper on a Tesla. You would think they could find a way to design to be more aesthetically pleasing.

They look fine to me. The electric cars use different means than airflow over a radiator to provide cooling so any grille in front is pointless drag. Once you see the beauty in the engineering you care less about the style and look aesthetics, but maybe that's just an engineer/technician type thing.

Car designers are largely constrained by their own past successes. Once the public settles on what they like, most deviations from it are punished, so they are hemmed into giving the public what they expect to see, more of everything looking vaguely the same, and only changing subtly over time.
Also, all cars must have a vague "face" or people get turned off by them.

Tesla already did the fake grill look with the original Model S.


The model S refresh got rid of the fake grill.


I personally think no grill looks better.

But if you rather have the Model 3/Y to have a fake mouth, people have already done that.


I think this looks completely stupid. And it's even dumber that this has no function at all. It's all just pointless fake stickers and plastic trim pieces that look just as dumb as someone putting racing stripes or fake badges.

There are body panel kits that do change the look of the front bumper though to try to make it look more "normal".

Got first coat of ceramic done.

Using Avalon King Shield IX. Went on very easily.

Going to do second coat this morning at some point.

I probably didn't "have to" clay bar it but could tell a difference before/after. I then applied several coats of Zaino and called it a weekend.

when i bought my cx9 i didn't realize until i got home it had lots of little spots of rail dust.

the detailing corrected that
