Why are old Dodge Ramchargers so expensive?

Around 1992 we bought a used '86 Dodge Ramcharger with about 65,000 miles on it for around $5,000. I think we sold it later for about $3,500. This was the dolled-up "Prospector" edition that had some extra features.

I recently looked online and found similar generation Ramchargers going for $10-$20k! Can somebody explain this? What happened to make these things so popular? I thought Broncos were the vehicles of that type with a cult following.

Ours looked a lot like this one:

All old SUVs are going up in value - Wagoneers, FJs, Broncos, Blazers, Ramchargers, XJs

I feel like I haven't seen a ram charger in 30 years. They must be pretty rare. See the occasional old blazer/jimmy or bronco.

Rare because 90% of them caught on fire

Its basic supply and demand really. 92% of them caught fire and burned out, so the remainder are quite rare and thus valuable.

Parents had an '84. Took that beast to the DPS for my 16th birthday, and passed!

Nostalgia

Lots of people have great memories of them, and those people are at the age where they have money. That, and the hood ornament is bada**

My best memory of my parent's Ram Charger is cracking the windshield with the front passenger seat. I was only 4ish so I don't remember if it was my fault or my brother's

Cash for clunkers probably didn't help

I was about to reply that the same thing applied to old Audi 5000s from the 80s, and they're not selling for those kids of prices. Then, just to be sure, I looked on Auto Trader and the only two listed had asking prices of $10k and $28K! Guess I underestimated the kind of stupid prices people will pay for old cars.

I would not expect to see one like that north of the Rio Grande.

oh, man, i was worried they were going to remove that sweet landscape panorama from the exterior, but they were just cleaning it up.

Lots of great memories in an old Ramcharger. Like the time the engine mounts broke and I threw the fan and half the engine block through the radiator.
