Thats a pretty sweet garage you have in your log cabin.

Sweet garage, also bizarre problem to have.

I wonder why in the world Porsche felt the need to move away from the manual/mechanical hood release.

Did you check on the inside of the passenger headlamp area? By no means do I know, but looked like a YouTube showed that area and they had the head lamp removed to get to it.

Or course at this point, you may just want to part it out - easier than reassembly.

I thought German engineering was supposed to be superior. I think I have to jack it up and take the wheel off to get at the cable.
My family is full of German car enthusiasts (I'm not one). Based on observing their automotive issues with Audis, BMWs and Porsches since the 80's, I would say German engineering is unnecessarily complicated. People often confuse that with "superior" for some reason.

To me, German engineering is good at making things to very tight tolerances and high performance. That doesn't mean mechanically elegant, simple, or intuitive though. Many times quite the opposite.

Triple A or insurance roadside assistance?
Nope. But this is an excuse for me to go to Harbor Freight and buy a shiny new floor jack.

You drive a Porsche, and you're getting a jack at... Harbor Freight? Not sure if serious.

Gucci, Tiffany and Burberry were sold out. I got a Daytona jack. What brand should I have bought?

Obviously Snap-On...

There's nothing wrong with HF jacks. I wouldn't get under any car supported by any jack even a Snap-On, Mac, or other tool truck brand

I had the hood cable break on my '94 Vette once. It's apparently such a common occurrence that they made a tool to use in order to pop the hood from the driver seat without pulling the latch. Got to be pretty good with it until I finally decided to get it fixed. There has to be something out there for your Boxster .

If you have a Porsche Boxster and your battery go's dead, or you close your trunk while working on car when the battery is dis-connected (like I did) Here is some basic prep advise.

1-You can carry a small 12 volt battery jumper inside your car behind passenger seat, with a 2 foot long jumper wire. Small speaker wire..

You can open your front hood/trunk while putting 12 volts of power on the C3 fuse located in your fuse box 3rd row down 3rd fuse.

May try that

Did that work, or did they discontinue that cable for the '13 to reduce weight?

"Hahahahaa legend......managed to get it open this morning...today was a good day......................thanks for all the replies folks

So following advice i knew we couldn't fool the solenoid into opening by applying power as it's canbus controlled so i had to approach it logically.....

Also i knew the car cannot be opened via the switch inside the car as the red jumper post relay diverts the power away from the normal fuses thus bypassing internal switchgear prob to protect the cars electrical system.....

So what i did was fool the cars electrical system by apply a powerpack to the red post in fusebox, negative to door hinge, then connected another positive wire to the red post positive powerpack clamp with a 3 way splitter on the other end,

removed fuses A6-RECM (rear end control module) A7-RECM C3-FECM (front end control module) and applied the 3 splitter power cables to each bottom fuse terminal together, and at once all the dash lights came on as normal ,used my key to open the trunk and woilla........ hocus pocus.......bobs yer uncle...... the ******* popped open........awesome

Don't ask me how it worked........ but it did possibly both units need to be powered together to operate the circuit...as i suspected the battery is fried totally shorted can't even trickle charge it even with another battery connected in parallel to the charger, time for a new AGM bat today then its on to replace the RECM and hopefully back to fun times again

Once again thanks again for all the advice folks"

The problem with German Engineering is that they ran off anyone who was Jewish or other "undesirable" before WWII, and after the war, we and the Russians swooped in and stole as many of the smart ones still in Germany as we could.

So we got all the Jewish physicists pre-WWII who gave us nuclear weapons, and then grabbed the (literal) rocket scientists after the war.

Didn't leave them many.

German engineering is like MIT engineering. Brilliant. Cutting Edge. Precise. Totally betrayed by the most common sense, dumb thing you can think of.

No car story but I work with cranes. Here's a wonderful German crane betrayed by the hook. Of course the crane manufacturer convinced the company they bought the hook from to take the hit and admit fault. Remember with the German's, they never can make a mistake. It's always that someone didn't tell them something. Never mind that uncertainty is part of engineering.

The Germans built a small number of incredibly complex, high tech for the time, almost impossible to defeat tanks. Best in the world, though the Russian T-34 was impressive.

Americans, on the other hand built a crap ton of Sherman tanks, using 10-year-old radial engine designs. Factories that used to make locomotives and cars now made tanks.

Tactics were often to engage with 2 sacrificial Shermans in front, while a third went around the back and blew up the German tank where it had little armor.

The Allies made around 4.4 million tanks, the Axis around 700,000.

Sometimes having a crap ton of cheap, reliable tanks that any kid off the farm could drive and fix, was better than having the shiniest new toy.

In his History of Nazi Germany class at A&M back in the day, Dr. Arnold Krammer would hand around a US Army issued Colt 1911 and a swastika-stamped Luger pistol and ask the class why the two firearms display why the Germans lost.

Farmer John nailed it. The precision of the Luger was world-class... until it got some dirt in it and it had to be busted down and cleaned. The 1911 could roll in the dirt all day and still put rounds down field with some accuracy.

Just a phenomenal class and professor. (RIP, Herr Professor!)

But never the less, my midlife crisis car will, with any luck, still be a Porsche 911.

Focused on the passenger side wheel well for about an hour. Nothing. Pretty sure this wheel is a dead end.

Spoke to a mechanic. Probably have to get it towed late next week.

In the meantime, will go back to the right wheel. I may purchase a camera I can snake around.
