I thought German engineering was supposed to be superior. I think I have to jack it up and take the wheel off to get at the cable.

My family is full of German car enthusiasts (I'm not one). Based on observing their automotive issues with Audis, BMWs and Porsches since the 80's, I would say German engineering is unnecessarily complicated. People often confuse that with "superior" for some reason.GeorgiAg said:

Thanks. I tried that with a jump charger and tried a trickle charger overnight. I got nothing. Gonna have to take the wheel off to get at the cable.schmendeler said:
I might try this first. The jump panel in the fuse box isn't working.CanyonAg77 said:
Use one of those power supplies that feeds power back through the cigarette lighter.

I don't think you could ever start the car with this, but maybe pop the hood and get your key out.

Nope. But this is an excuse for me to go to Harbor Freight and buy a shiny new floor jack.1agswitchin4lanes said:Triple A or insurance roadside assistance?GeorgiAg said:

They sell Pittsburgh Automotive and Daytona jacks.CanyonAg77 said:

Yeah, I may need to apply more power. Or maybe the trickle charger will do the trick. I left it hooked up all day while I'm at work.ac04 said:
in that case you may want to try the video schmendeler posted but with a second battery (like one that's currently in another car) instead of the jump charger/trickle charger you already tried. not sure it will make a difference but sounds like you're going to have to exhaust all options on this one.
I have a very expensive paperweight right now.Appelt_Ag09 said:
Oh look at me I have a Porsche!
at the end of the video he suggests using another vehicle in place of the battery jumper. maybe it needs MOAR POWER?GeorgiAg said:

Not sure if it'll work on a Porsche, but I had a similar issue with my BMW. Ended up hooking a trickle charger to a license plate light. It provided just enough power to pop the hatch and get to the battery. Might be worth trying that if you have an easily accessible plate light or side markerGeorgiAg said:Yeah, I may need to apply more power. Or maybe the trickle charger will do the trick. Another wrinkle: It's in my garage with the top down. I don't want to roll it out in case of rain. So it's going to be hard to get a car next to it. May have to get some extra long jumper cables too.
Top is down. Power point/cigarette lighter is easily accessible and probably the most robust wiring easily accessible. There are already products available to charge that way.Quote:

Went home for lunch. I've tried three chargers. They don't even turn on. Might have to try it.schmendeler said:at the end of the video he suggests using another vehicle in place of the battery jumper. maybe it needs MOAR POWER?GeorgiAg said:

That had already been suggested by you... I was giving an alternative. Lots of cars have switched power points that run through a BCM or other computer module. You're not going to back feed power through those if that's the case. No idea if Porsche does that.CanyonAg77 said:Top is down. Newer computer controlled chargers won't output any amps if the battery voltage is too low. My Schumacher has a "force" mode that'll override the computer chip, but I have a couple others that don't provide that option. If you're using something like a battery tender, you may be out of luck.GeorgiAg said:Went home for lunch. I've tried three chargers. They don't even turn on. I'm hoping that not having ICE in the vehicles will make them simple enough to be reliable.Buck Turgidson said:My family is full of German car enthusiasts (I'm not one).
