Trunk hatch won't release

We have a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe and I've put myself in corner by telling my wife I can fix this myself...turns out, I can't. I'm hoping someone on here can give me some trouble shooting advice:

This dumb car does not have a physical release inside the car, it is only on the remote. When I push the fob to release the truck the car light flash, indicating to me that it "heard the fob" but nothing happens. So, to me it must be the solenoid. I bought a replacement solenoid and installed that (simple unclip/clip), again lights flash but nothing happens. Okay, so maybe electrical, should have used a multimeter first. Check to see if it's getting power and it is reading 12V. Now I hold the multimeter to the contacts and depress the key fob to see if there is a change, nothing, no voltage rise/drop. I checked all contacts, I think there are 4 wires.

Now I'm at a loss from here and I've got an "I told you so wife". Can someone help out with what the next logical step would be (aside from admit defeat)?

Sell car or wife and start over.

At this point only one of those options makes sense, I obviously wouldn't try to sell the car until it's fixed.

So it doesn't have this? I thought all newer cars (2001+) had to have some type of physical release from the inside.

Yes, it does have that and that's how we've been opening it. It's nice having a nimble 6 year old for that reason but we're tired of having smashed groceries as he fidgets back there.

I meant theres no physical pull level on the drivers side to open the hatch.

I think FLATOUT is the Service Manager now for the BCS Hyundai dealership. Maybe try emailing him.

Ha, ok, I can imagine. Sounds like something became disconnected between the latch and solenoid or maybe stuck. Here's a quick blurb about an older model where they had to lube up some of the mechanisms and it started working again.

I just did a search and he's the Operations manager for the local Mazda dealership. But the company that owns the Mazda dealership, also owns the local Hyundai one too.

Send him an email. awheeler@brazosvalleyimports.com

Have you checked the fuses?

Yep, forgot to mention that. That was yesterday's check. All seemed well. The 20A DR LOCK fuse would most likely be the culprit since it has the trunk relay. But if it were out ak other door locks wouldn't be working. To my knowledge this is the only electrical problem on the car.

Thanks, I'll give a quick email. Living in Alaska, I dont have a "local" dealership to give a ring to. If we'd have known we were moving here prior to we wouldn't have bought this car.

Ah the power of Texas Ags Seriously though I love this site for stuff like this.

I got your email, and I am going to get on the phone with our Master Tech over at Hyundai to see if we can help you out!

My favorite Viper customer was from Alaska and he dealt with the same proximity issue to a dealership as you do when he would get stuck. Give me a few and let me see what I can come up with.

I had an electrical problem with something, I forget what it was but I, too, checked the fuse. Looked great.

A forum (car) member said that a fuse can "look" good, but to test for power on the top of the fuse... where there are the two contact points. Sure enough... fuse was bad. Changed it... voila.

Maybe in your case...

I am having the exact same problem with my Santa Fe. Can you tell me what you eventually learned was the problem? Thanks

Anyone have recent contact info for Flatout? The previously posted email bounced.
