Does anyone have a white Honda Pilot with paint peeling on the roof?

Bought my wife's Honda Pilot new in 2013 and the paint in peeling away on the roof.

I've actually seen a couple other Honda pilots with this same issue.

Anyone have one?

Is this a recall / warranty thing?

Got an estimate on it and they want too much money.

Good luck.

I have a silver 2013 Pilot and don't have that problem. That said, it's been garaged almost every night since we bought it.

It seems to only be the white color for some reason.

My neighbor as a white one. I'll have to see if he has the same issue. He keeps it garaged, don't know if that impacts it or not.

As great as honda's are, for some reason (same goes for Nissan), paint is their weak point.

Our 2005 Tundra has white paint and it has always sucked.

I believe in the late 2000's early 2010's they used a clear coat that was supposed to be better and more environmentally friendly or whatever, but apparently it had a serious issue with long term UV exposure.

Add Toyota to that list.

It's most modern cars, my Subaru and Mazda both had paint applied with crayons

I've had a few Toyotas and Chevy's. Their paint wasn't bad.

My Infiniti's paint is AWFUL. You breath on it and it scratches. I've never owned a car with paint this sensitive/weak.

Infinity paint is notorious for being soft. As far as the rest of the makers, I think the real problem is the lack of protection on the paint coupled with keeping them out in the Texas sun all the time. You MUST keep something -- preferably a good sealant -- on the paint and the so-called wax that is in a wash and wax car cleaning product is NOT sufficient protection. I'm a huge fan of spray waxes, especially good ones like Meguiars Ultimate Quik Wax and Turtle Wax Ice, but these are short term solutions (1 mo.) at best. And their UV protection (which probably has the most to do with long term paint issues) is iffy.

Keep your car clean, keep it clayed (real or synthetic) regularly, and keep a GOOD wax or sealant on it -- applied at least quarterly with monthly or twice monthly spray wax updates.

That doesn't mean that the vehicle in question didn't get a bad paint job, but some paint failures can be prevented. Admittedly, we're talking oxidation and not really clear coat failure, but that isn't an absolute rule.

A few years ago my wife's old '05 Honda Accord white was peeling like crazy on the roof and trunk next to license plate. Went to frank Kent Honda in fw and they talked to Honda and they offered to pay for half to have it repainted. So we did. The only issue is they rented us a new pilot touring edition while it was being painted. My wife still wants one to this day.
