2016 2.7l boost. 133,000 miles, trouble free until now.

Started making a racket last week right after I drove through some construction and caked the undercarriage in crud. Had the shop check it and they thought water pump. Washed the truck and it started sounding normal again. Drove to Austin for meeting yesterday and the noise came back with a vengeance, louder than ever. Kind of sounded like when you leave a fork in the garbage disposal. Heard a belt screech and the "charging system fubar" light came on. 1 mile to the shop so limped it on in and she's hot as hell pulling in. Alternator completely locked up, threw the serpentine belt. FYI, alternators aren't reasonably priced anymore... $750 for the part!! Autozone had reconditioned ones for over $650 so u don't think the shop was inflating the price of a new one to screw me.

Wholesale is $360 on a Motorcraft GL8832 alternator, GL8774 if you have the inverter and its $25 more.

Theres probably not a whole lot of aftermarket/rebuilt ones around just yet, so prices are still high.

$600 for a freaking ALTERNATOR that likely cost $50 to maybe $100 to manufacture? That's crazy!

wow... not exactly the $100 (including core charge) alternators I used to throw on my 90's model Chevys...

But then again, the amount of electronics in my '16 F150 is easily 20-30x that of those old trucks that shipped with AM radios and manual windows.

If a 2005 F250 6.0 Diesel alternator happens to fit, I have one you can have. Fully functional.

These post are my favorite. It is shocking things don't cost what they did 20-30 years ago. As if it's just cars parts that are more expensive, nothing else. (Not calling your post out specifically, there are tons of these that make me lol).
