Mid-size trucks are lighter, do better in sand and many other off-road scenarios. They get better MPG. Are easier in the city. They are cheaper. Unless you are towing/ hauling over 6k/ 2k pounds it is more than enough.
I currently drive an F150, but that is simply to have more room for my kids. If I didn't need room for them I would buy a new Ranger or Tacoma.
