My 2012 Toyota Camry came with a "Silencer" anti-theft system where the engine won't start unless you have a specific fob. Lately, I've been having problems with battery and general connection issues. Toyota said they can no longer get new fobs. Is this something I should have disabled because it's not worth the trouble or worth it to look else where for new fobs?

Its made by Mangadyne. I think they're still in business.

Google and see if they are and often times they will still sell replacement remotes or refer you to a local dealer/reseller that has these.

I also have this system.

How hard is it to bypass? Does it actually prevent my truck from getting stolen, or is it just a feel good measure?

That's what I was curious about too, Naveronski. I don't know how much good it's actually doing. I mean, my car has never been stolen but no one else has attempted to either.

A few years ago I had a tundra that came with the silencer system. Here's how I fixed it.
Look in the glove box and see if there's a relay floating around in a plastic bag. Then go to the fuse box and look for the relay with the wires sticking out if it (it may be marked "silencer"). swap those out and you'll never have to worry about the fob again.

Easy. I pulled it off my tundra. They brains are in a starter relay they add in the fuse box. Pull that relay and swap with an oem relay. Thats it. I still had the orignial relay in my glove box.

I got stranded once because the chip wasn't in the receiver just right and so it wasn't registering.... lol

Finally got around to it tonight. Thanks y'all, factory relay was in my glove box. Made it super easy to remove my Tacoma's silencer system.
