Because of Centerpole and Stbabs, I have been motivated to start working on my wife's truck. (Also forbidden to Cummins swap my 89 crew cab dually until her's is done!) It's a 1982 K10 short bed that I picked up for the price of the GM crate engine sitting in it. This is my first 4x4 and I know nothing about the suspension on these. Can't afford a pro build on any part and will be making plenty of mistakes along the way. Going to be fun!

Complete tear down is first on the list. I have a new front clip and bed to put on it, but need to asses the cab and make repairs.

The current hood is in good shape, but the fenders are rusted. The core support has a little rust as well. When I bought the truck I got the front clip, great bed, and an entire other truck for one price. Basically 2.5 trucks. Easier to replace parts than fix the old ones.

How did you go about your search for the truck? One day I would like to get a 1980 k10 long wheel base 4x4 like my dad had when I was a kid. But my search skills are lacking.

I did an 83 GMC 3/4 ton back in the day. Drove it all through school.

I bet the floorboards are rusted as well, that's a problem area. I spent a lot of time in the pick-a-part type places for interior components.

That cab is easily salvageable with replacement panel sections. I bought mine from either LMC Truck or JC Whitney. Gorilla weld it in and grind smooth. Way easier than a cab swap.

Don't know what area you're in but there's an old man in Wallis that has a treasure trove of that body style trucks in a junk yard. Actually he's between Orchard and Wallis on 36.
