Howdy! I'm coming up on the 3yr/36k point on the F150 and looking at extended warranties.

On my Lexus it paid for itself with the GPS/Nav system that went out (would have cost $3k at the time). The F150's Display unit was getting erratic recently and if I would have paid for it, would have set me back $3600.

Looks like I can get Total of 8 yrs/100k for $1600 for a Ford ESP from a dealer (online), with adders for drop-off first day rental +$55, Lighting +$90, and lost/stolen/broken key for $105, or a total of $1850.

I can also get an AutoNation extended warranty for an addition 7 years from date of purchase and maximum 75k miles additional from date of purchase which would take it out to 10 years total, 108k miles. Right now, best price I've seen on that is $2800 which is considerably higher. Maybe I can negotiate that price down. I don't know if there is an option to get more than the 75k additional miles.

Do you folks see any problem going with the Autonation if they are same coverage but more years? Do you see any pitfalls? Autonation is going to be around a looong time and there are locations everywhere.

TL/DR version: What do you think about extended warranties and Would you consider AutoNation vs Ford if you get more coverage?

Thanks for your help/insight!

I think they are a waste of money but I do all my own repairs and drive a lot of miles so there is no way it makes sense for me.

Was in your exact position when we bought my wife's 2013 Ford Edge from Autonation. I ended up buying the extended warranty from Lombard ford online. We got the premium warranty (bumper to bumper/powertrain for 9 years/100,000 miles) for about $1400. Much better then the price of the warranty from autonation. The Ford ESP is good at any dealership for the $100 deductible while autonations deductible was $100 at an autonation house or $200 at any ford dealership. You pay 10% up front then a monthly installament for a year. Figured with all the electronics in this car it's worth it. I'm pretty handy with auto work as I work on my 2008 F150 but wanted the warranty for my wife's car. Hope this helps.

On a side note we bought the car certified pre owned from Autonation Frisco and added the warranty. Within 4 months the transmission goes out and grapevine ford said there was water in the transmission and they wouldn't cover it. Called Autonation and before I was even able to lose it on them they said to bring it in and they fix it since they get paid for the warranty work. Had a post on this situation and Texags helped my keep my cool. Good luck.

I have a coworker that bought the extended warranty from Ford when he bought his F150 new. Five years in it has more than paid for itself already. YMMV.

FWIW Anderson Koch was cheaper than Lombard online for my situation

Do not buy anything offered by autonation.

Vehicles, warranties, their oil change packages, their batteries, their brakes etc.

I'm about to be in the market for an extended warranty also.

1ag, do you recommend going to a dealership or finding a Ford ESP online?

there are many good places for cheap ESPs online from Ford.

You can try factoryplans.com or floodfordesp.com

I'm not affiliated with either one of them.

I know this is a dumb question, but will my local Red McCombs honor one of those Flood ESP plans just like their own?

Any advantage to buying local?

Thank you!

These plans are loike the cars they sell.

They're negotiable.

See if they play ball. If they don't, buy from online.

Ok, so I bought the Ford ESP premium online at floodfordesp.com last night--was Def the best price at $1645.

Only challenge is my 3yr/36k warranty expires tomorrow night. I'm now wondering procedure-wise if they process it Monday will it timestamp to ther day that I bought it online or to the day they process it which is a day late?

Do dealerships have the ability to process on a Monday according to the transaction date over a weekend?
