Daughter in C-Stat calls and says car won't recognize key (fob).

She's dead in the water.

I leave work, Houston, and drive a spare to her and all is fine.

Dealership says "yeah, sometimes the fob just loses it's memory. it happens. drop off the car and the fob and for a $150 we will reprogram it for you."

Are you kidding me? What kind of POS answer is that?

All kinds of scenarios of her out on the road somewhere have gone through my mind. "It happens..."

Seems like BS to me.

Anyone else have this same scenario?

What's wrong with old fashioned keys?

At least she wasn't stuck on an island after a 3-hour tour.

I thought this board was straight LOLvo so it surprises me to see so much XC90 love lately.

Stuff like thit makes me glad none of the trucks I have bought have gone away from keys in ignitions yet. Just too many electrical gremlins in all this stuff these days to give up on something so simplistic like a key. Tesla door handles have always concerned me for what the alternative is in the event the batteries die or one of the gremlins shows up.

And have they completely gone away from the key already, even on the Volvo? My wife's Infiniti has keyless everything, but there is a key in the fob that can be used when needed.

Push button start is kind of cool, like starting a race car, but not if it doesn't work reliably. My FIL has a challenger a couple of years ago that had a push button start, but very easily could be pulled out and behind it was the ignition made for a key if a situation like this popped up. They don't do that stuff anymore?

Where's the keyhole for the ignition? I thought my wife's key in the fob was only for the door lock as I can't find an ignition in her 2013 QX56.

Usually if you use the fob to push the button, it will start. Infiniti may have a slot in the center console for you to put the key in to start as well. Check your manual.

Yeah. I just don't get it. Nothing sweet sexy or cool about that.

It has developed a thirst for oil...

Otherwise, it has been an okay car. Trying to convince her into an accord or Lexus

My Dad bought my mom a new Cadillac XLR in 2007. They still have it and right before Christmas my mother found herself locked inside the car because 1) the key fob lost consciousness and 2) GM decided that inside door handles are outdated and should be replaced by an electronic button.

20,000 miles on a 4-5 year old car! I thought my wife never drove.....
But yeah, i wouldn't expect an issue like this in a '14 and would be pretty pissed too.

If it is the same as the C6 then there are latches hidden at the floor to open the door. There are some tragic stories of older people being stuck in their corvettes with at least one ending in a fatality from heat exposure.

I always liked these and I thought they were more dependable due to sharing components with Ford during their ownership.

It certainly could have been bad as my parents are in their mid/late 70's. They live in Florida and were fortunate that it was December and not July. They discovered the door release in the trunk but didn't know about the one on the bottom of the door. I'll send the video link to them, thanks for posting it.

My g37 has a port on the left side that you insert the fob into to start. If you don't have one of those, I would try pushing the start button with the actual fob itself.
