Put a new set of Michelin LTX A/T 2's (275 60 20) on my 2016 F150 SuperCrew Lariat FX4 this morning. Truck has the stock 20" chrome wheels that come with the Lariat chrome package. Discount Tire located on 17326 Spring Cypress (near 290).

When I went out and picked up the truck, notices the edge of most all the wheels had spaces where the "chrome" was chipped off (don't have pics now - truck getting aligned - will post later). Appears the tire "technician" was aggressive/sloppy with dismounting old/remounting new tires.

Brought it to the attention of the assistant manager before I left. He called me back and said they have a company that repairs/restores wheels. Offered to have the wheels "restored". Irritates me - I keep my trucks 6-8 years 180,000 miles... Afraid the plating will continue to chip and wear off over time.

Anyone else experience this with Discount Tire?
Experience with "restore/refinish" on the Ford plated style wheels?
Does it make more sense for me to ask for "take offs" they may have?

Thx SW86

Not arguing the "free fix"... my concern is that you get what you pay for..... They damaged my wheels, expect them to correct the damage.

And the "free fix" might not be a good deal for me if they need the wheels/truck for 1,2,3,?... days without another vehicle to drive while being repaired for "free".

Looking to see if anyone has experience with repair on the "chrome plated wheels". I'm not convinced the process will yield an acceptable long term fix.

The wheels are PVD. It's like a powdercoat. Ask them to have the repair done by SABS.

Discount in Conroe did the same thing to my black factory wheels on my 17 ltz silverado. If they're sending it to the same place as mine, in the woodlands 45 @ sawdust. Took it in at 8am, left the truck. Picked it up that evening. Fixed chips and repainted. Literally have no clue they're not new. I wouldn't hesitate to let them fix them

Have you asked them how long it would take? Have you asked them if they would provide a rental car for that period if?

They're not chrome plated wheels. They're powder coated. Have them repaired, if they flake off, have them recoat the wheels.

Its going to be hard to tell you how the repair might hold up when you can't tell us anything about the process they would use to repair it. Get more information.

He was not very clear on the initial discussion. It sounded like they wanted to do them one at a time... I don't feel like making multiple trips for them to correct their mistake. Wanted to see if anyone else had similar experience.

I understand now from 1agswitchin4lanes response that the coating on the wheels is PVD - did a little research on PVD and understand what it is, how it is applied, etc. Learned something new today.

That is a question I plan to ask now that I know what the PVD coating is and how it is applied.

It almost seems like it would be easier to offer a set of "takes offs" in exchange for my damaged wheels.

Isn't that damage going to occur every time tires are mounted or weights are removed/installed??

Here's a pic. All the wheels have damage like this around the outer edge.

That does seem a little excessive. Who puts that much tire shine on without wiping it down?

Tell the carwash to stop using that broom to clean your wheels. They look like they have had the hell scubbed out of them.

What are the other options on wheels? I'll go with one of those. Lol. That looks terrible.

I like discount tire but considering I have to have my tires rebalanced about 40% of the time, I'm not liking the idea that the wheel aesthetics and longevity are dependent on some kids ability to mount a tire.
