I have an 2013 chevy sonic 1.8 ecotec engine making a sound like a bad fan or rotor somewhere. The sound is coming from around the intake around the firewall. I thought it was the purge valve cause I thought that was the only thing back there that could make noise. But I replaced that and the sound is still there. It revs up and rpms with the motor so its a moving part that turns with the engine rpms. Anyone ever hear anything like this before.

Belt tensioner?

Remove the belt and start it and see if the noise stops. If so, you need to look at the drive accessories.

Next move I believe. I had the alternator checked. It passed but that don't mean a bearing isn't going out. Belt needs replacing anyway. Thanks for the idea.
