I always find it laughable when people say they don't trust the reliability of the 3.5 boost. The Base 3.5 engine has been out for over 10 years and the boost for 8 of those, and literally 10's of thousands of them on the road. Not sure what more proof you need for it to be considered reliable.
Not sure about cars, but my dad had a titan and put almost 200k miles on it. It was bulletproofaggieforester05 said:
Nissan vehicles are the Chrysler of Japan. Every one that my family or friends have had has been an unreliable POS. They made some reliable vehicles early on, but I think that quality has gone way down hill. I still like the Z cars, but can't see buying anything else from them.
I have a 2016 F150 5.0L and I really like it. That being said, the 2018 models got the direct injected gen 3 coyote and the ten speed transmission. This has allowed the 5.0L to really close the gap with the 3.5L. I'd definitely test drive both trucks to see which you prefer.
I'm unsure about your second hand experience, but the Nissans I've owned have been exceptional. I have owned an '08 Maxima and '09 Armada. I currently own a '13 Altima SV and '17 Texas Titan SV. I have yet to have any issues with any of those vehicles, save a brake booster on the Armada.aggieforester05 said:

10k pounds is not a "smaller trailer" and it will be at a half ton's limit. Is it a fifth wheel?

Lots of BOOOOOOST folks on here have turned to the Tundra for one reason or another. Not a favorable sign. We had a boost in our old Expy and had multiple problems within 20k miles.
I had a 2000 Lightning and had the typical non N/A issues with it, but nothing like our old eco boost. The Lightning was a parts bin one-off and not a full on production with a purpose vehicle like the Expy.

I tow a 7k trailer and I would not trade my Super Duty diesel in for a half ton to pull it. I know an F150 will do it, but a heavier truck will do it better. A 10k trailer and that half ton wouldn't need even be on the radar. Neither would a gas motor.
Sometimes I fee like the half Ton truck is trying to be the jack of all trades. My opinion is the get the truck for the job and not push its spec.
Ive got almost 5000 miles on my 10 speed and had zero issues.Gangster Octopus said:
After more research, we wound up picking up an F150 yesterday. It's not the one we initially thought about, but it was too good of a deal to pass up. 2018 5.0 XLT FX4 Screw with a short bed, trailer tow package, and all kids of other crap. The 10 speed worries me because of all the TSBs, but the Ford was still the better option for what we want to do with it. For the 5-6 times a year we'll tow a travel trailer, it should more than suffice. There are quite a few trailer options in the 5-6k pound range that will work fine for what we want to do. (The beauty of having a friend with an RV dealership is that you can "rent" whatever you want in the name of a demo).
24 hours in and my wife loves it - I'll update when/if things start going wrong. Crossing my fingers it's better than our 2015 Expy.
Next stop, audio upgrades and rear seat release latches!
My advice is to drive it aggressively during the break in period so the transmission knows how you expect it to behave.Gangster Octopus said:
Holy hell that's a lot of driving! 222k on a 15! Glad to hear about the TSB - I was dissing through Ford boards and couldn't tell based on posters' mileage alone whether they had 17s or 18s.
