Nissan vehicles are the Chrysler of Japan. Every one that my family or friends have had has been an unreliable POS. They made some reliable vehicles early on, but I think that quality has gone way down hill. I still like the Z cars, but can't see buying anything else from them.

I have a 2016 F150 5.0L and I really like it. That being said, the 2018 models got the direct injected gen 3 coyote and the ten speed transmission. This has allowed the 5.0L to really close the gap with the 3.5L. I'd definitely test drive both trucks to see which you prefer.

5.0 is a very good engine. i have mine with the old 6 speed ******.

other folks might be able to chime in on the new 10 speed but the engine itself is tried and true.

I always find it laughable when people say they don't trust the reliability of the 3.5 boost. The Base 3.5 engine has been out for over 10 years and the boost for 8 of those, and literally 10's of thousands of them on the road. Not sure what more proof you need for it to be considered reliable.

Lots of BOOOOOOST folks on here have turned to the Tundra for one reason or another. Not a favorable sign. We had a boost in our old Expy and had multiple problems within 20k miles.

I had a 2000 Lightning and had the typical non N/A issues with it, but nothing like our old eco boost. The Lightning was a parts bin one-off and not a full on production with a purpose vehicle like the Expy.

Not sure about cars, but my dad had a titan and put almost 200k miles on it. It was bulletproof

My [friend or family member] has a [vehicle brand] and it's is the worst. Therefore, all [vehicle brand] are terrible.

10k pounds is not a "smaller trailer" and it will be at a half ton's limit. Is it a fifth wheel?

I'm unsure about your second hand experience, but the Nissans I've owned have been exceptional. I have owned an '08 Maxima and '09 Armada. I currently own a '13 Altima SV and '17 Texas Titan SV. I have yet to have any issues with any of those vehicles, save a brake booster on the Armada.

To the OP's point, I have towed with the Armada and it towed well. I have yet to tow with the Titan, so have no first hand knowledge. Mileage for the Titan is 16 city, 19-20 on highway. Most of the highway mileage (8.9k) is at or above 75, so take that in account. Horsepower is tremendous at 390, and torque is 394 (Nissan advertised / sticker rates).

I towed 7k with a 2005 titan and it was at its limit as far as driveability, and that was with upgrades. Only had radiator problems with titan around 100k Miles

10k was a swag - I looked at a particular trailer model this morning and it's 6,800# dry.

I had time this morning to go sit in both. The amount of room in the Ford versus my old 2004 crew cab is amazing. The space in the new 150 feels like my old 2005 250. I liked the storage space and myriad of plugs/ports, too. I'm 6'2" and the back seat had plenty of room with a seating position that didn't seem too "backseaty". I did notice slight hail damage on the particular Ford truck that we like - it has been popped out, but you can still see one spot in the hood and one on the roof where the dents were (the reflection in the paint is different).

The Nissan is a little smaller inside, but not enough to make a difference versus the Ford. The backseat felt really upright, but the legroom was still plenty. I like the styling of the Nissan more, but my wife still thinks they're on the same level.

It's stil a toss up. I think my wife likes the Ford a little more than the Nissan after getting in both. We'll probably still price both and see if anyone is willing to deal.

I've been very pleased with my '17 Titan SV. Bought it as the 18's were rolling in. I bought mine for $28,400 +ttl

I tow a 7k trailer and I would not trade my Super Duty diesel in for a half ton to pull it. I know an F150 will do it, but a heavier truck will do it better. A 10k trailer and that half ton wouldn't need even be on the radar. Neither would a gas motor.

Sometimes I fee like the half Ton truck is trying to be the jack of all trades. My opinion is the get the truck for the job and not push its spec.

I had a 15 boost f150 that was a huge POS and I dumped it for a tundra. What size and weight is your trailer?

Well said. I towed a 7k trailer with the boost and while it had plenty of power it was still a half ton truck. I never felt comfotable rowing it and my opinion is that a half ton truck is a half ton truck....u can add power and payload but it what it is. If towing a larger travel trailer I would move to a 3/4 or 1 tin or look for a ultralight 24 foot or Smaller trailer.

After more research, we wound up picking up an F150 yesterday. It's not the one we initially thought about, but it was too good of a deal to pass up. 2018 5.0 XLT FX4 Screw with a short bed, trailer tow package, and all kids of other crap. The 10 speed worries me because of all the TSBs, but the Ford was still the better option for what we want to do with it. For the 5-6 times a year we'll tow a travel trailer, it should more than suffice. There are quite a few trailer options in the 5-6k pound range that will work fine for what we want to do. (The beauty of having a friend with an RV dealership is that you can "rent" whatever you want in the name of a demo).

24 hours in and my wife loves it - I'll update when/if things start going wrong. Crossing my fingers it's better than our 2015 Expy.

Next stop, audio upgrades and rear seat release latches!

Ive got almost 5000 miles on my 10 speed and had zero issues.

Yours will do the adaptive learning right now, before you know it, it will be even smoother.

The TSBs were mostly for the 2017 10 speeds.

Surprised you had issues with your 2015 Expy.

FWIW, I worked on a 2015 F150 2.7L with 222,000 miles this weekend. This is the 4th set of spark plugs I've put in it, and trans and rear axle service and new wipers.Truck still drives decent.

I have a 2011 screw boost with 185k miles on it. Only issue I've ever had is a bad throttle body sensor, and that was an easy fix. I tow a 6800 pound travel trailer up to New Mexico and Colorado with it yearly and it performs great. It's been a great truck and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one again.

Holy hell that's a lot of driving! 222k on a 15! Glad to hear about the TSB - I was dissing through Ford boards and couldn't tell based on posters' mileage alone whether they had 17s or 18s.

My advice is to drive it aggressively during the break in period so the transmission knows how you expect it to behave.

I'll trade with the wife for a few days and will be sure to get it nice and broken in for her.

This is so true! My FIL has the same year truck and model F-150 as I do. When I drive his truck it feels like I am driving a truck with no boost. He drives like a paw paw.
