After a recent trip my wife and I left her car at her parents. Two weeks later we get back to a dead car. Thought it was the battery, Autozone tested it and deemed it bad and replaced. At the same time, I also had Autozone test the starter/alternator and those got a thumbs up. A few weeks later, we came home to it dead again. Research and our handy fellow texager led us to disconnect the Hands Free Link (HFL) and that seemed to do the trick. Apparently they are known the crap out and errantly stay on after the vehicle is turned off.

Now that we got the new 4unner (thanks, Buck!), I'm stating to drive the Acura TL more and I've noticed that it is having a little trouble starting up. I drove over to Autozone to have them test everything again, but when he testing the battery, it came up at around 12volts and only 640 CCA, so he was not able to test the starter/alternator (again, those were testing ~month ago and were fine).

So where should I start testing for parasitic battery drain?

640CCA is plenty to start a V6 engine unless its -10F outside.

You have a DVOM?

How long did autozone keep the battery in the deep freeze before measuring CCA?

(You need a new battery)

I do have a DSOV, but full disclosure, I'm not very electrically inclined.

In regards to the battery, this is my second "free" battery from AZ (only ~2months olds), somehow this Acura finds a way to chew them up.

I have the same car and a few years ago I went through several mornings of dead battery. Tighten the piss out of the cables after reaming them with a cleaner. That fixed it for me.

Now if only there was an easy fix for the inconsistent autolocking doors and power mirror memory going crazy.

I don't remember what brand I have in there now but its not from autozone

X2 Had same problem with an 80 Series. Idling it would act all crazy, lights blink, funny idle, AC would blow warm/cold etc.

Turned out to be a loose negative battery terminal.

A friend had this problem on his Accord and it was a relay on the AC unit that goes bad and stays "on" draining the battery. It also makes the car hard to start as the AC clutch is engaged while cranking the engine over.

Had a 2013 Ford F-150 FX2 that had a parasitic battery drain. It would draw a fully charged battery down over night! You would think that would leave a heat signature, but no one was ever able to identify one. After 5 failed attempts by Ford to find the problem and nearly wearing out my jumper cables, I drove down the street and swapped it for a new Sierra 1500. Loving the Jimmy.

I'm going to read into this a bit. The A/C stopped working about a year ago and I replaced the A/C relay and it's been good since. But I can totally see the A/C clutch giving the car hell when starting up.

you could just remove the relay and see if your battery drain goes away, if there even is a battery drain. left rear engine bay.
