The powertrain will be the ultimate off-roader's dream: a turbo-diesel (a four-cylinder) mounted to a five-speed manual (an automatic option will also be available). Admittedly, that 2.5-liter diesel that has to carry around 3,035 pounds of curb weight isn't the strongest at 62 HP at 3,200 RPM and 144 lb-ft at 1,400 rpm.

Does it have a pull-start?

That thing would be sweet if you swapped in a 4BT so you could drive highway speeds.

And a lift for 33" tires.

Basically a CJ styled side-by-side UTV. That said, do want.

peak torque at 1400 seems low even for a diesel. may not even need low range to crawl with that power band.

Technically, but it's longer than a CJ-7 and only 6" narrower.

2 cylinder... why even post the firing order as 1-2. Might as well say one, then the other.

Back on track though, so this is pretty much a CJ-7 sized CJ-7 that doesn't have the utility or road capabilities of a CJ7? I don't see where this has the appeal of a SbS like a Polaris crew. Perhaps I'm looking at it wrong, but while Inthink it's cool - it looks like a minuscule market to me.

Jalopnik article made it seem like this is a guage of whether they may bring more road going things here. Mahindra has been building Jeeps since the 40's.

I see a nice progression of JD technology that comes to a halt in the early 90s, except the combine which is late 90s. But the 4960 Is probably is apex of the noncomputer controlled machines, and is probably why the prices remain strong on them. Same with the 9600/9610 when it comes to straw walker machines. The older generation wheat guys around here love them, especially ig they bale straw but the irrigated corn and bean guys have long ago switched to rotary machhines.

A lot of the antiques I didn't drive in he field, they were part of my dad's collection. The oldest I drove in normal field work was a 720, and I spent a lot of time on the -20, -30, and -40 series. And you pretty much pegged my career path, after about 2000, I started trending toward smaller acres and eventual semi-retirement.

This is an updated version of a WW2 Willys (CJ-2), which Mahindra's been building under license since WW2. Yes, it has a modern (but small) diesel, not the go devil 132 CID from the 40's, but then again that one sure wasn't any faster.

I'm always amazed folks worry about speed for any type of off roader like this. Hint: it's not meant to be fast, and would be deadly if it were (just ask Patton). Still, there are people who love to do it.

FYI, to those who might be so inclined, they even sell via various 3rd parties grille conversions to get rid of that hideous Mahindra front look.

I just have to admit it looks pretty fun, imho.

Calling BS on the street legal part. We should forward the Craigslist ad to NTHSB.

Well you should perhaps read up on the pertinent regulations then. Or, deal with a contractor that knows the laws and regulations. No, I don't/haven't used these guys or represent them, but the internet is your friend for research:

Each state is different, but at a minimum you'll want to add the following parts to appease Johnny Law:
  • Blinkers
  • Brake light wiring
  • License plate lights
Optional but suggested items include:
  • Windshield
  • Additional reflectors
  • A better horn

I'd love to be wrong, and I'm certainly not an expert. It seems to vary greatly from state to state. A quick look at TxDmv.gov seems to indicate that OHVs are just that. Also I'm curious about emissions?

Between used Wranglers and side by sides this seems like a really small, and old, market seeking nostalgia.

The Roxor reminds me of the Honda Crosstour. No one asked for a 'more civil' Subaru but that didn't stop Honda.

Anyone with an old Willys or CJ5 rusting into the earth that can find the title has an asset on their hands now.

These are a VIN tag away from easy registration.

In truth, the Mahindra you'd want is the Thar. The Roxor is pretty cool but it's essentially dumbed down for off road only.
