I'm thinking I wouldn't have left the top down on the convertible even if it is on the second floor. A roof leak in the right (wrong) spot could trash the interior.

I thought the same thing. I wonder if they built it like a parking garage with the storage intent in mind

Probably did based on the fact that there's a ramp going up there, but those posts are still pretty small in comparison to most on a parking garage. I'm sure it was built for cars in a showroom type setting, but I'm not sure it was built for that many.
