Guys - I've always been a GM guy, I like the LS engines. Put 230k on my 2004 GMC 4.8. Currently 46k on my 2015 Chevy 5.3.

I am going to be in need of 4wd, and I have never been able to find a comfortable seating position in the 2015 Chevy...it drives great, but is just uncomfortable for me to drive.

So I am looking at 4wd F150s with V8. Want to get one before the '18s come out with start/stop technology on them. Anybody have long term reliability info on the 50s? What are the common issues with the Fords, drivetrain and/or other things?

1ags, any idea on incentives changing up or down any time soon?

Had the Eco-Boost but moved to 5.0

Initially was disappointed with acceleration with the 5.0 but at 11k miles the motor seemed to "wake up" and be more responsive. Just completed 800 mile trip avg 84 mph with heavy acceleration. About 18 mpg.

At 22k miles the motor feels plenty powerful and better than ever. I prefer this set up over the eco boost. No issues, just oil service

There was a thread on here not too long ago about the 5.0 V8 in the f-150.

I have a '13 with the 5.0 and haven't had any major issues other than needing to replace the water pump at 110K and some faulty radiator hoses. Both are fairly common as I understand it.

Mine has 125K on it now and runs great.

I chose the 5.0 over the Boost when I got my 2016 Lariat FX4.
Had the truck for over a year/19,000 miles now. Very happy with the 5.0
Also have two buddies that got F150's the same time as I got mine - they both got the boost. We've done some mileage comparisons (calculated, not the truck "computer"....). It appears - in our comparison (Houston area driving with some highway trips) - the 5.0 is getting a little better MPG. They both comment on having trouble keeping their foot out of the gas. The boost likes to run.

Agree with 12atm - my truck seems to be running better with more miles.

Did an experiment to check mileage. On a run from Freeport to Houston I set the cruise on 65 for a 50 mile +/-stretch. Filled up before and after - calculated mileage just under 21 mpg in that stretch. I will say that on runs to Rockport (at 80 MPH+/-) mileage will run between 17.5 and 18.0 MPG. Driving around Houston traffic mileage runs between 16 and 17 MPG.

Don't do alot of towing - and what I tow is small (4,000# +/-). Can't really comment on towing.

Don't think there is a wrong answer (5.0 or Boost) - just depends on what you want. I will say my 5.0 V8 sounds alot better than the boost... But I'm old and use to driving V8's...

I've owned 4 ecoboost and 2 5.0L, and each one has its own unique characteristics.

The 2018 scheduling has started, so I'm sure around Labor day incentives will start to ramp up.

Haven't even had it a month yet so I can't add much about the longevity but I just bought an F150 4x4 with the 5.0. Reading up on the boost it seem like they have timing chain issues at 100k+ miles. I'm getting 16 mpg mainly driving around town with some freeway driving thrown in. Love it.

Bought my daughter a 2012 Ecoboost about a year ago. Have had zero problems with it. The place I bought it from had a 2012 5.0L as well. The acceleration of the ecoboost was so much better than the 5.0L. Both are good engines.

I do love the concept of the Flex, it's just a great all around vehicle. It's super comfortable, roomy, perfect for kids, fun to drive, and I actually like the styling. I've just personally had bad luck with it. Got rear ended at highway speeds, which almost totaled it. Then found out it had been wrecked before I bought it but didn't show up on carfax. Now it just spent five out of the last six weeks at the dealer having serious engine repairs. My carfax is also going to be a deal breaker if I try to sell it privately, going to have to take the hit at trade in. It's a shame that they are going the way of the dodo, they make too much sense; although, the new purchase price is hard to swallow.
