I need to replace the motor in a 2003 F150 heritage. Crate motor or rebuilt. I know I don't have time to rebuild it but could squeeze the swap in over a long weekend.

Any source recommendations?

I'd go crate. I have a 2002 but when it's time I want a new or beefed up rebuild...supercharger...other extraneous ***** I don't want junkyard. ..junk.

I had a site a while back where you could buy this type of thing for trucks....more power than stock but not crazy over the top useless for truck kinda stuff....can't find it now though.

I think a minimum of a lightning motor would be nice though.

I have alost 300k on my original motor and don't want to spend the next 300k wondering how much fun it could have been.

Please define "crate motor" as I know Ford doesnt offer new 5.4L 2V engines.

Most of their rebuilds are done by AER.

Jasper is another big name rebuilder, but not sure if they're still as good as they used to be.

Then there's always Thunderbolt...

That's what I figured the case was, I'd trust an OEM junkyard engine more than a rebuilt aftermarket engine. If anything, take a junkyard engine apart some to ensure it's all good and replace any gaskets or seals that look to be leaking.

Also not sure how long of a weekend OP plans on, but I think anything short of 5 days is pretty optimistic lol

Why not rebuild a junkyard OEM motor then swap it in?

Silvy is right, rarely do things go as planned in a swap.

Agreed. I usually get the motor a week before, spend that weekend replacing gaskets, checking for leaks, etc.

Tinker with it after work in the evenings, and suit up Friday night, pull the old one out, and Saturday morning usually have the new one stabbed by lunch.

Thanks for the responses. Looking more like a junkyard and go through it, then swap it.

Long weekend = Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. May take 2 long weekends.

LKQ of South Texas or Williams Auto Salvage may be your best bets....

Really? No one makes a decent rebuilt beefed up motor for one of the best engines in one of the most popular trucks ever built? I find that hard to believe. Wherever I saw them the motors were about 5k a piece but they weren't straight rebuilds....they had been upgraded a bit.
