With baby #2 on the way, we are looking at the odyssey. We had a minivan rental while the wife's 4Runner was in the shop the sliding doors are def a game changer. the 2018s that are scheduled to come out in the spring/summer.

I test drive a Chrysler Pacifica last week out of pure curiosity. It was awesome. It was very roomy, affordable (fully loaded), stacked with kid friendly features, and got good gas mileage (compared to full size SUV's). However I'd have a hard time parting with my F-150. We'll see.

As mentioned, with only two kids I'd look at the Ford Explorer and Flex. Both available with the 3.5l boost, plenty of space for two kids and luggage, and a lot more fun to drive.
You just recommended a station wagon.

Anybody want to give a quick review of their Pacifica in terms of reliability and any issues that may be popping up with this 1st gen minivan.

We just spent a LONG time checking a few out at the Austin Auto show this past weekend so I don't need any technical details, was just wondering if y'all have had any mechanical / electrical issues with yours. We were waiting to see what the new 2018 Odyssey was gonna bring, but we may pull the trigger on Chrysler before Honda even ships their new remodel. We were really impressed with the Pacifica.

9K miles on my Limited. No major issues.

I've had a couple times where the transmission seemed to have trouble finding a gear from a stop. Rectified itself in a matter of seconds after I let off the gas. Also once had some codes pop up on the display saying the parking sensors were not responding but they seemed to be working just fine and I've yet to see that message again. The UConnect Theater responds a little slower than I would like when trying to set up something for the boys to watch in the second row.

Overall it's been fantastic.

Nice. Yeah, we'd be getting the limited too so thanks for the feedback. My wife says if she has to drive a minivan she's getting all the bells and whistles. I'm fine with that... if she demanded a top of the line SUV you're talking 70K... no thanks!!!

Check out the tech in the 2018 Odyssey. It makes me kinda want to buy one

Yeah the 2018 Odyssey is what we were waiting for and we saw the videos and read the previews when it was announced. Definitely has some cool things. I'm just thinking the loaded Pacifica has more things we really care about having spent some time with it.

For example our youngest is now in 1st grade so something like the Odyssey cabin camera doesn't do much for me, but it's a fantastic idea for younger families.

For us its Chrysler vs Honda.

I've owned two odysseys and one dodge and for me, it would be zero debate. Odyssey easy.

Just found out one big drawback to the Pacifica... if you get the Limited version it typically comes with a sun roof along much of the roof. This eliminates the removable middle seat in the 2nd row because the seat belt harness for that seat needs to be in the ceiling.

The only way to get the middle seat is to choose an option that eliminates the sunroof. I guess I can do w/out the moon roof, but the problem is most dealers don't opt for the middle seat option, so it would be really difficult to find the color, options, etc. that we want. Plus, if I'm getting top of the line I want the friggin sun roof.

There are definitely times when we want to fold down all the back seats and have our 3 kids ride in the 2nd row so not having that middle seat might be a deal breaker. It's really hard to find that vehicle that is perfect all the way around.

Just bought a Limited Pacifica, but was considering waiting for the Odyssey. I really liked the idea of the "magic" second row seats, but concluded that I liked the stow and go seats in the pacifica better. Once I saw how easy it is to get in and out of the 3rd row even with a car seat in, my concerns were totally alleviated.

Really couldn't care less about the cabin talk feature in the Oddyssey, just yell at your kids like everyone else!

Seriously though, I expect the 18 Odyssey to be very nice, and I am sure that you would be very happy whichever way you go. One other thing to keep in mind - and this helped with my decision - is that to get a deal, you will have to wait until the new oddysey has been out for a while. You can go get a great deal on a Pacifica now, since they have been out for a year already.

Hard to argue against the Honda, that's why we were eagerly waiting for the '18. The biggest problem I have with Honda is they have really crappy seat adjust options for the passenger seat. My wife has a bad back and long trips are difficult for her. As of right now the current Odyssey only has a 4 way adjust for the passenger. No idea if the '18 Odyssey will improve this, but looking at the auto show, the most current Honda Pilot still has the same crappy / no options adjust for the passenger.

But otherwise, yeah, the new Odyssey looks to have a lot going for it.

Yeah, that's definitely one of the things I've been thinking about! I'll be paying straight up list price for a new Odyssey unless I'm willing to wait for 6 months / a year after release.

There is a white limited Pacifica at our local dealer without the giant sunroof. It is also a demo so they are selling it at a good price.

I've owned 2 dodge's. Sold the first 1 at 355k miles. The 2nd has 180k on it now. It's costed me a heater hose and a wheel bearing.

That's why I got the Pacifica. None of the other minivan options that we wanted came without a sunroof. And if you want the 8th seat, like we did, the sunroof was automatically out.

Our requirements are leather seats and navigation. That pulls you out of the bottom, but not the top.

I got a touring L, customized with the wheels, sway bar, navigation and towing hitch. And maroon.

We just got back from a week vacation in Seattle and rented a 2017 Pacifica for the whole time. My wife and I were honestly skeptical about everyone here raving about how great they are but after this trip...I have to say I've totally been converted! It had full leather, two captains chairs on the second row and no sunroof. I will now be working to convince my wife to trade in her SUV and for reference we are both 30.

A win against a 2003 Mustang V6 isn't impressive at all. Just about car made today would handily beat the Mustang. The cologne V6 was a dog.

We purchased an Odyssey about a month ago and love it. I don't know of anyone who regrets buying one and seem to hear more stories about people who wish they would've bought one instead of their SUV.

It's a shame that the '18 Honda Ody is starting to be priced like an SUV. Is that Wifi option really worth what seems like $5k?

We're pulling the trigger on an Elite Odyssey once we can find one with the White exterior and mocha leather. We looked at one at Honda of Spring on saturday and I wanted to run through the numbers before I made the purchase. Needless to say it sold 20 minutes after I left.

There are no incentives or deals at least on the Elite model. Pay MSRP or get nothing.
