Purchased a new truck and dealer made a big deal about the gps tracker installed in it.
It is installed primarily as inventory protection for the dealer and then they sell it back to you as an amenity to your truck purchase.
You can view truck location, past locations, and other mechanical stats from your PC or smart phone.
Does anyone know where these trackers are typically installed? Can you disable or remove them?

Take it back to the dealer, find the make-ready department, slip the tech $40 and BOOM. Out.

1. It needs constant 12v ( dash area)
2. GPS antenna needs a window.

Might be easier to find the antenna and trace it back

I dont see it listed on the sticker....I assume it was just an "add on" that they try to sell....like a bed liner.
Honestly, I gave them a price I wanted to pay and we worked on that

Thanks Agmechanic. I'll try to look for it.
I assume it will be pretty small and hard to find.

Dealers are doing this more often these days. Passing on the cost of their lot tracking solution to customers as if it's a consumer product.

There's little these devices offer to the end consumer that a smart phone can't do for you already.

I would check the OBD port first. The most recent GPS gadget like this I've seen was a straight pass-through on the OBD port.

Drive back to the lot and tell them to ****ing remove it.

Unless they are the lien holder of the note, then you are stuck with it for a while.

My friend puts these in his rental cars, they always tap into the power in the rear view mirror area.

I just wish I could get my wife's Yukon to stop phoning home and telling the dealership it needs an oil change. The incessant phone calls every few months from the dealer telling me that my vehicle notified them it needs an oil change and to schedule an appointment are getting old. When i tell them "no thanks, I change my own oil, please stop calling about this" they act like I'm asking them to cut off an arm.
