Excellent rides... I'd love to have one! First car was an '83 Celica Supra, next was an '88 Supra N/A. Always wanted a 93-98.

Having driven many of them, I'd say this - don't dismiss the auto in these cars. They are pretty solid and still a **** ton of fun to drive.

interesting. My wife would probably smother me in my sleep if I bought a vehicle like this in an Auto. She loves driving a stick.

It's a great car in its own right, but when put against modern competition, it falls hilariously flat,

Have you thought about a Nissan 300ZX TT? The last ones are from 1996, so it's a contemporary of the MK4 Supras. They're not the easiest thing to work on due to the jam packed engine bay, but they also don't go for Supra money. Nissan sold a lot of them, they look great (the Z32 generation), and there is plenty of performance potential.

Practically brand new...

I had a 1994 Supra TT Black with Targa. Bought it in 1996 for $31,500 and sold it at what I thought was the height of the F&F bump in 2002 for $23,000 with the transmission synchros going out (Low point was around $17,000). It was lightly modded with exhaust, downpipe, intercooler, Eibach springs, and stock turbos turned into true twin (from sequential) 405 wheel hp and 420 wheel torque. The car was a lot of fun, but had a lot of maintenance issues. Not as much like a Toyota as I thought it would be. Probably due to too much power or possibly a lemon?

At that price point I'd rather have a GT-R if you are looking at Japanese sports cars (my Dad had one). The car is fun, but the turbos are a choir to keep happy and in the right spot. After the true twin conversion it was more predictable but it had no power under 4000rpm and a hell of a rush after. I guess since I've had one... I respect and love the car, but would never pay the going price for one.

Tangentially Supra-related...

Here's an idea of what you'll be up against if you decide to pull the trigger on restoring of these turbo Japanese 90s semi-classics 25 years later.

I love the Z TTs and Supras but a Trans Am with LT or LS seems so much cheaper and faster.

Had a 1999 sc300 back in the early 2000s. Loved that car. So solid and well built. Not much oomph, but wish I'd kept it.
