How long do you want to ignore this user?
2014 F150 4x4. Was sitting in street waiting on my wife and decided to shift through 4x4 cycles cause I've been doing a lot of highway driving lately and know it's good to do this periodically. After shifting back to 2wd, it won't move. I hit the gas and it shows MPH and RPM's up, but truck won't move. Shifted into manual and 1st and 2nd, reverse and it won't budge. Shifted back to park and it didn't sound right. Turned truck off and back on and same thing. I'm supposed to leave on a trip tomorrow. Any help or am I screwed here? 62k miles.

Did you actually move the truck when you shifted into 4x4 modes?

Probably need to get out & push the truck back/forth to engage/disengage the 4x4.

yes, for a few feet. Then placed in 2wd and wouldn't move. I had to put into neutral and push out of street and when I went I put into park, it kept rolling and had to apply emergency brake and turn off. Not a good sign.

I shifted into 4x4 again and it still wouldn't move. Tried going back and forth a few times and wouldn't budge. Just revved up.

Read the manual. iIRC there's something about pressing the brakes while engaging/disengaging 4WD....

Thanks, and yeah I saw that. My bigger concern now is having it in park and it still rolled. Had to apply emergency brake to park it. Could that still be related to 4x4? Have tow scheduled in morning.

Well...I followed a couple of you guys advice and went back out to my truck. Put it in 4x4 low and saw the 'shift delayed pull forward' sign. So I put it back in drive from neutral and hopped out and pushed it a few feet. I heard a big pop. Put back in neutral and moved back to 2wd and drives normal. So, it was the 4x4 and not transmission(which I was worried about). Thanks for all your help and I'll have it fixed this week because I had an appointment scheduled to have the recall fixed on the brake master cylinder. Just no off-roading before then I guess. Thanks again!

I don't think there's anything to fix here. The electronic shift on the fly sounds like its working as it should to me.

You can NOT shift into 4L unless you're in neutral and stopped or moving less than 3mph.

Also a few extra pointers:

1. Don't ever do this on dry pavement. Snow/Grass/mud/dirt etc is preferable.

2. Read the owners manual about how to use the ESOF

3. If you're disconnected and the truck wont move, then its normal for it to roll in park. Your transfer case is basically in neutral, which means its free wheeling regardless of your gear selection. Thank goodness you figured that out and didnt have the truck roll away.

4. You can scroll to "Off Road" in the dash cluster and once you're looking at the angles and stuff, press "OK" for info and Go to 4x4 and hit OK again. It will tell you whats going on and explain how to use it.

Also, don't screw around with it before next road trip.
