I used to have it delivered. In quantities less than about 10,000gal it's more expensive than buying from a station. I put a 500gal tank/pump on a trailer and buy from Costco. If sulfur content is your worry add a gal of motor oil/100gal of fuel or use marvel mystery oil.

Lol I don't think I need that much fuel. Any service stations around the outskirts of the city that may have it?

What's your interest price? Or non ulsd? Where in town are you?

If you have to ask, that means you are probably too far from a station that sells it, to make it worth your while.

Unless rules have changed, you'll probably have to get an exemption number anyway. Get one, and you can buy taxable diesel, and get the road tax refunded.

Assuming it's the tax you are worried about.

To find a station, Google up the nearest cotton gin, grain elevator, co-op, etc. Call them and ask.

quote:
If the fuel is used exclusively for agricultural purposes, an applicant may obtain an Agricultural End User Number, which allows the user to buy up to 25,000 gallons of tax-free dyed diesel per month. The agricultural producer must give its diesel fuel suppliers and distributors the assigned Agricultural End User Number along with signed statements

If the fuel will be used for some non-agricultural purposes, the applicant will receive an End User Number, which allows the user to buy up to 10,000 gallons of tax-free dyed diesel per month. The end user must give suppliers and distributors the assigned End User Number along with signed statements

I used the big rig pumps at a Valero the other day because of a long trailer. The pump asked if I wanted Tractor Fuel or Reefer Fuel. I didn't look into it but the Reefer Fuel I assume has no roadway tax in the price and is dyed, where tractor fuel is your standard #2. I bet this option is available at all big truck stops (the valero I was at isn't big or anything, just happens to have 18-wheeler pumps).

Nice side note for everyone, That Valero had free air (and water, but prolly not potable) at the pumps. One trailer tire was low so I was gunna pay $1.50 to fill it, but luckily the air station was busted and while filling the truck I noticed an air hose on the side of the pump. It just had a quick conect on the end but I carry an air chuck with me so it worked great, and for FREE. I'm sure this is a common thing at big rig pumps, so if you carry your own air chuck, FREE AIR!

I'd check it out before I pumped. It's been a long time since I really looked into the permits and such, but I think you need to have the tax number in order to buy off-road diesel.

I believe that you can buy ORD from Lee Oil Company in Alvin

Good point. The pump would probably ask for some Tax card or something if the Reefer option was selected. If the pump didn't ask, that's just too easy to get red diesel.

I think it actually is that easy.

But if you get caught, it's a pretty expensive ticket.

My Googling seems to indicate that no Truck Stop is going to sell you untaxed (dyed) diesel without a tax number. I'd sure as heck go in and talk to a manager before I tried. And I still think that you have to apply to the state for a tax number before you buy any tax-free diesel.
