Anyone have any advice on how to settle with these bastages? My TXTAG account was messed up. Finally got it squared away but the fees the HCTRA charges is outrageous. I sent a check in on one invoice and paid only the toll amount. I dont think they took to kindly of that!

Call TxTag and see if they will call HCTRA on your behalf.

I guess you forgot to update your CC on file?

Yeah if the tolls weren't paid they want it all. I got hit but my to tag was in good standing at the time so it worked out. But HCTRA is a ***** to deal with.

Have you called HCTRA? Had the same problem but with their toll tag and they cleared all but one $11 fee. Paid the remain tolls and was good to go.

HCRTR stinks, TXTag is right there with them. Had better luck with NTTA fighting for me against them then even my treatment when I have a direct account with the others. Car was in shop so had NTTA tag on it. Got my car back and moved it on NTTA account. Twelve hours later drive BW8 and three bridges don't read tag and get violation in mail. HCTRA argues tag was not valid on my vehicle. NTTA sends them message that it was valid at time of violations. HCTRA says no. NTTA manager calls manager at HCTRA and gives them a lecture with me listening and I pay tolls only and done.
Vehicle with HCTRA tag on 99 does not read, license valid. TXTag won't budge, HCTRA says tag & plate is valid at time of violation but will not even file dispute with TXTag.
In middle of closing all my HCTRA accounts and moving them all to NTTA. NTTA also covers OK toll ways and can still use it to pay for parking at DFW.

Txtag charges like $5 for some violations. HCTRA goes right to like $35

Exactly. Weve gotten a few violations from fort bend toll road for driving on 99. They charge a 3 or 5 dollar fee. That is much more reasonable than the $30 from HCTRA. Im surprised no one has hammered them for the outrageous fees. Not to mention a good portion of their roads have already been paid for but they still collect tolls

If they took the tolls off, the roads would essentially be clogged 100% of the time. Think back to Ike and the free time.

And if they got rid of the tolls, they would have to raise taxes. So to avoid that, they keep the tolls and keep taxes 'low'.

HCTRA is a 4 letter word in our house. Fought with them for nearly 8 months over what they initially deemed toll violations that they later admitted should not have been. However, the only notice we ever received about the violations were from a Collections agency. After going back and forth for months HCTRA finally admitted they were not violations so they waived the fees, but still insisted that it was our responsibility to pay the collections agency fees. Our argument was that they were not violations so if anyone needs to pay the collections agency it should be HCTRA. Ultimately, we ended up paying it because they were blocking the registration renewal on the vehicle and there was no end in sight to the argument. Guess we could have gone to court, but that would have cost more in $ and time than what the fees were. Pisses me off even thinking about it.

The toll situation in Houston is a ****ing joke. Dallas has these bozos beat by a mile. Half the traffic issues on Beltway are a result of the toll booths and mouth breathers still driving around without a toll tag in this town.

Computer toll billings via mail for the win!
