In Houston. Anyone have a contact?
quote:I heavily considered both a 2012 ZL1 and a 2016 SS when I got my current car. Even though my SS has ~120HP less than last generation's ZL1, the total package of the new Camaro is light years ahead of the Gen 5.
LOL yeah year is important!
2012-2015 - LSA Powered and a solid car. Basically a CTS-V (V2) in Camaro Trim.
2017 - Basically a CTS-V (V3) in Camaro Trim.
Wait a second....

The only time I don't is if someone wants to mod the car, then throw this whole argument out the window.quote:I heavily considered both a 2012 ZL1 and a 2016 SS when I got my current car. The new SS Auto is faster 0-60 than last generation's ZL1. It's also just as fast in the 1/4 mile than last generation's ZL1. My SS is equivalent to the old ZL1. This new ZL1 will be an absolute beast compared to what you can buy used right now, which is what prices reflect.

Pricing starts at $62K. While I know that is a lot of money, that is a lot of car brand new for that money.

Looks like a nice car, but I basically feel the same about it as I do the GT500's and the Hellcats. Once you start getting up into the 650+ HP range you're talking about a lot of unusable HP and torque for street applications.
So my advice (unsolicited of course) would be to think about what you want to use the car for. If you're going to spend time at the track the ZL1 sounds like it would be a blast, if you've never been to the track and don't see yourself going more than once or twice during the time you own the car, then the SS Camaro would probably save you 20k and give you more than enough power.
My last 3 daily drivers have all been 400+ HP and I feel like (at least for me) that's a sweetspot for having a car that is really fun to drive on public roads but can also provide some thrills at the track when I do go.
Also you could get the SS with the 1LE package and see what you think about it and then add the supercharger later if you really felt like you were missing out on that power.

I should have clarified that I'm talking more about road courses than drag strip performance. Obviously for drag performance, high HP numbers pay dividends. I live out in california and have access to laguna Seca so that is what my statements were based off. I'd probably have more fun on the track with 650 HP but I'm not rich enough to play that game.

Personally for road coursing I would rather not have a zl1 but the 1le. Just me but I don't like timing being pulled due to heat soak which has proven to be a massive problem in the Z06. Shave a second or two for continued not frustrating performance.
quote:How many people are really tracking a $100K street car though? The Z06 is basically a race car for the street and it goes fast in a pinch really well. All FI vehicles heat soak and so do NA cars to a lesser extent. It's also not something you want to drive constantly and it cost a lot of money to do so. I was looking at one at the local dealership that had worn out tires at 1,800 miles.quote:quote:

Yep. Can't believe they put out a Z06 that can't survive more than a couple of laps.
