Which I spent too much money doing myself vs paying someone and lost my Jeep in the process? Did I read that part right?

It would seem to make more sense for him to have bought a land cruiser or hilux in Africa, spend a month pimping it out, and then go on his trip death march.

Reminds me of the old Turtle Expedition series they used to feature in Four Wheeler magazine.

I was pretty far off the beaten path in Gondar, Ehtiopia once and there was a group of about 20 "Dual Sport" BMW motorcycles there on an Africa Tour of some sort. Had a support van and everything.

My first thought was, you wreck a bike out here, and you are a LONG way from even a sh**y hospital.
Still would be a cool way to see at least some of an enormous continent.

Hah, I posted about this too on the Outdoor board, the consensus seems to be he won't last long.

A Canadian driving through a war torn continent with no weapons or escort in a heavily modded and expensive vehicle (with poor reliability)...awesome.

Anyone want to take bets on how long it takes for this thing to get stolen by some African rebels or a enthusiastic dictator?

This guy must have watched the Top Gear Bolivia special one to many times. He probably thinks Africa will be full of cheeky British shenanigans.

You may not think it possible, but the guy apparently used to look like an even bigger d-bag:

Alaska and Argentina are a little different than Libya and Ethiopia.
